BBC iPlayer download speed

I am now in the 21st century - I am connected to fibre However - my first trial using BBC iPlayer makes me wonder why all of the hype ? Despite having a 38Mbps connection speed - my download speed from iPlayer is less than 1MB/sec - I expected considerably faster........ Anyone found similar ?

It'll either be because your wife keeps switching the BBC off because she's afraid it'll burst into flames or you've decided to keep the iPlayer in the fridge.
