Why don't you get both your credit files, make sure they are impeccable and also look at your income/outgoing ratio?
Your credit history does come into play as you are financially linked (and vice versa) so get both your credit files.0 -

Based on what? Unless you know a lenders criteria. It has no bearing on the outcome.0 -
I've just ordered a car for March delivery, on PCP. I was never asked about my salary either. I have absolutely no idea of my credit score or whats on my credit file. I do know that i have never missed a payment for anything and that i don't have a large amount of credit against my name.
OP, there is obviously something they don't like, i would bet it's to do with your credit files. Have you asked them ?0 -

Thanks for the info. And yeah allegedly we'll get a letter from the financiers detailing the reasons for the refusal so hopefully we'll get more info then. If not we'll at least have some contact details to get the ball rolling. Going to sit on it at least until then then maybe try a different approach.0 -

I know lenders have criteria. But it is a fact that my wife can afford the monthly payment. I am basing this on the fact that she is my wife and funnily enough, I know how much money she earns and how much she pays out. As she does with me. If you've not got anything helfpul to say, how about just say nothing?0 -

Unhelpful and slightly racist. Good stuff.0 -
And just to clear up any further confusion, I've reviewed the paperwork and the loan is around £9000.
Genuinely thanks to everybody for all the info. It's much clearer now and we've got some good options to move forward with. Cheers.0 -

It's not in the slightest bit racistBertyJobbo wrote:I know lenders have criteria. But it is a fact that my wife can afford the monthly payment. I am basing this on the fact that she is my wife and funnily enough, I know how much money she earns and how much she pays out.
It is a FACT if you like that the finance company rejected it so clearly they either don't believe she can afford it or there is something on her records that you don't know about - go to Noddle and check the file there for free and then either use the free 30 day trial for Experian and Equifax (and cancel it after) or get the £2 statuary report - see if there is anything from the last 6 years that you don't know about or has been incorrectly recorded - if you have joint finances, check yours too.
Do you/does she have a CC paid off in full every month or is there a balance left over? Do you have any loans ongoing or other finance? Are you both on the electoral register?Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

There is nothing racist about that comment at all !
Does your wife have high levels of unused credit such as high limits on credit cards or overdrafts ?
Even if they are unused, high limits can be viewd as a negative when applying for further finance products

Can you be racist against a car?
Im guessing one of those various unimportant reasons is actually the reason for the refusal.
And i agree with the racist comment, £4000 a year on a cheap car is mad. You should be able to do MUCH better than that.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
