Im guessing one of those various unimportant reasons is actually the reason for the refusal.
And i agree with the racist comment, £4000 a year on a cheap car is mad. You should be able to do MUCH better than that.
It's not £4000 a year. See my update. It's £275 a month.
It's not a cheap car it's £26000 land barge
The UNimportant reasons are personal and f-all to do with our finances.
The racist thing was a joke - it more a sub-text for "why bother to say anything if you've got nothing useful to say" - "racist" was quicker to type. I'm a busy man.0 -
Has your wife had credit before? It is quite possible that a lack of previous credit and showing the ability to pay in back generates a refusal.
Earnings are not that important usually - it all about successfully paid off credit0 -

She's got a couple of credit cards both in great shape. Limit was increased on one recently. I think to be honest it's more to do with electoral roll - we've just moved and gave new address before ER was confirmed.0 -

You say the cards are in great shape, i asume this is because they are either paid in full or more than the minimum is paid.
However if the cards are near the limit this could be viewed to a lender in a negative way i.e. living outisde your means. Im not saying that you do but it is possiable a lender can view it that way.
In a similar way, the limit increase could be a factor if there is a high amount of unused credit.

If not we'll at least have some contact details to get the ball rolling. Going to sit on it at least until then then maybe try a different approach.
The letter will just say "you don't meet our criteria" OR "you failed our credit checks, obtain a copy of your credit file for info" They won't tell you WHY you failed.0 -
Just wanted to say that shortly after I got married I was declined an application for a credit card; when I phoned to ask about it I gave them my previous name and they came back with an acceptance.
The names are linked on my credit file now but I guess that takes time to happen, so if you haven't already done so it might be worth explaining the name change to the company.0
