It must be a while since you received any money from a solicitor, everything I've had for at least the last 5 years has been a transfer, usually CHAPS.0 -

Yes you can. Or at least I'm betting that solicitors can.0 -
Businesses can definitely send CHAPS payment requests online. E.g. at BOS http://www.bankofscotlandbusiness.co.uk/online-banking/corporate-online/0

You posted a link to bank of scotland, The bank in question is santander. You cant justify a response like mine by posting information from another bank lol.
As someone said the max limit for FP with santander is 100k
Santander UK plc £100,000 according to the https://www.fasterpayments.org.uk/consumers/transaction-limits website
So CHAPS payment wasn't necessary.0 -

FWIW, Santander business customers are able to make CHAPS payments online. http://corporatehelpcenter.santander.co.uk/_layouts/helpcenter/FaqDetail.aspx?pregId=28
It doesn't matter that the Santander FP limit is £100K.0 -

I wouldn't blame the banks just yet, Maybe go back to the solicitors and double check they actually got it sent.
I can set up a CHAPS payment from my personal current account (one of the RBS subsidiaries) and I know a business who do it online via Nay West when they forget to pay the PAYE bill. So it is possible to set up CHAPS online. Business limits and access levels tend to be different to personal accounts.
In my experience solicitors will offer the choice of a cheque or CHAPS provided you pay the fee. I've never had one use FP to pay out and when I've sent them money by FP they've always asked for it well in advance to be sure it will be cleared in time - not as dependable as CHAPS.0 -
Business internet banking with most banks allows for setting up CHAPS payments.
My suspicion is that the payment has not gone. CHAPS is same day credit once the payment has left. The payer needs to contact their bank to enquire as to the status of the payment, and also needs to provide you with proof that it has actually debited (instructions can be printed off but not actually authorised).urs sinserly,

Thank you all for the kind help in providing a lot of information, and sharing your experience since the post the day before.
I wend to the sender solicitor's office yesterday by travelling 250 miles. On my way to there, they informed me that Santander told them the fund was being checked for compliance. While I waited in their office, their staff kept contacting the bank, and at about 2pm the bank said it's approved. Then I phoned Natwest and was told that the CHAPS transfer has received..., finally.
My feeling was that if I did not go to their office, I would be told again and again that they were chasing the bank and waiting for the feedback, and that's what they could do...That would waste my more days without knowing the money's where-about.
Thanks all again.0 -
I hope you are going to put in a compensation claim for your travel expenses and time.
IMO You were stiched up by the solicitors.0 -
the fund was being checked for compliance.
Which "fund"? Are Santander saying that they were checking that the solicitor had the right to send a CHAPS payment from his client account?
Surely he must be making such transfers very frequently?
Supposing the money had been required to complete on a property?
This sounds nonsensical to me - in your place I would be making a complaint in writing to the solicitor and requesting compensation for the time, trouble and expense to which you were put.0
