BBC iPlayer Downloads - green screen when playing?

this report from 2013 says that
'BBC iPlayer Desktop relied on users downloading and installing Adobe AIR. Unfortunately updates to this underlying technology often resulted in issues with the BBC iPlayer Desktop, with users reporting that they had lost downloaded programmes and/or were unable to download any new programmes.
BBC iPlayer Downloads doesn't require users to download and install Adobe AIR and consequently, shouldn't be vulnerable to issues resulting from updates to Adobe AIR.'0 -
There has been an update in the last few days, have you installed that?
Now that the majority of shows are available for 30 days, can you delete the show once you have an issue and re-download, or watch via internet streaming?
When I have green screen (very rare), that is what I do.
If it keeps occurring, you really need to consider a fresh install. I know that's not what you want to hear.
You should be able to keep all the shows currently into your i player by making a new folder, going to the folder they are currently in and copying them to the new folder. Then when your new i player has been installed, moving them back may work.
If not with the 30 day availability re-downloading will be easier than it was!0 -
Hello KxMx,
Many thanks for your helpful reply.
Okay, I will *reluctantly* (!!) try a fresh install of the iPlayer software in the hope this may sort things out.
I am not tech savvy - all I know if my downloads sit in my iPlayer software and that's how I access them. Please can you tell me how I go about finding them in a folder, in order to copy them to a new folder.
I do understand what you say about being able to download them again and or watch whilst streaming but this isn't an option for me really because I now don't have broadband and a much reduced monthly download limit, so having to re-download will exceed my download limits.
Thx in advance for any further advice you can offer me on this.0 -

What is this for please? the iPlayer software has always worked fine up until now and I haven't changed any settings on my laptop, AFAIK....that is what is so confusing.
It won't do any harm and it may help. It's worth a try.0 -
I don't have Windows 7 so I can't offer exact instructions. Google should help.
As a first step click "settings" in the top right corner when i Player is open.
Assuming it doesn't depend on Windows version, you should see "Storage" and a button to "show in Windows explorer"
Clicking this will take you to the storage location. Make a note of it. From here you can "select all" then "copy" and "paste" into a new folder.
Then when you have re-installed i Player you can move them back to see if that will work.
I am not 100% sure it will work but worth a try perhaps? In addition if the original download was corrupted then I doubt it will then play fine so some shows may not be save-able.0
