Simple tests for law benders, they annoy other people and they don't pay for the equipment and assets they need - in this case self-contained commercial premises.

And how do any of us know he isn't declaring his income? Just because he works from home doesn't mean he's defrauding the state. Talk about melodramatic.

There's no limit also - what a load of carp.

Report to the council if you don't like it op. Or talk to him. But frankly most of the other comments on this thread are an over reacted and some just idiotic.

    .

Agree. It kind of reveals the psyche of some people - they assume in worst in others and want to make unsubstantiated tax dodger complaints on someone and don't realise each complaint takes resources away from real substantiated tax dodgers.

There is probably a box on the complain form that asks what evidence do you have to substantiate your claims. What are you gonna say there? "uhhh.. he's trading from home so he must be tax dodging"

In that case tabloid papers that do offshore banking and don't pay their fair share of tax are law benders.

As has been said a legit "garage" is unlikely to be repairing cars at the side of the street, nor have the proper insurance in place to allow them to do so.

Besides, if you do report them and they are already known to HMRC then they'll have their details already on file, so no time wasted resources.

And as has already been said, the proper approach is to talk to your local council in the first instance to have this nuisance removed.

And likewise, if you feel strongly about that, report them to HMRC and let them assess if laws are being broken.

Far far far too many people in the motor trade neither paying tax, insurance or VAT and avoiding their responsibilities under the SOGA. Weed them out. A simple phone call to HMRC isnt going to be an issue for them IF they are fully legit.
