Might not help a lot of you but I got my Farrow and Ball paint from a charity shop that is linked with the community RePaint Scheme.
    http://www.communityrepaint.org.uk/

Its normally limited how many tins you can purchase and limited colour range but its heavily reduced price. Its been over a year but I think I paid £5 for the 2.5l tin compared to £38.

Got to say I was surprised by the quality of the paint. Compared to other paint brands where I've had to do at least 3 coats all I needed was 2 coats and I could've got away with one if I had put the paint on the wall slightly thicker with the pad

Got to admit depending where the light hits the room the walls do look a different shade but I like that. And it was easy to clean the paintbrush and pad afterwards.

We have a similar thing locally, a mate of mine stumbled upon it- was around £4 for 2.5l or something silly like that but they wouldn't allow him to purchase it as he works/not on benefits? So I'm pretty sure this isn't available to everyone, certainly this is the case locally

I am an amateur, but have to say that my only encounter with Farrow & Ball (helping a friend) was awful - couldn't get it nice & smooth, colour looked different, not good at all.
    Dulux trade wonderful IMHO.

I am surprised that so many people are taken in by this Farrow and Ball paint malarkey. It's for people who think they're posh and people who like Laura Ashley and Cath Kidston tat.:rotfl: and like people who currently want to paint everything grey.

I meet with a large group of women regularly and they talk about F and B like its the holy grail. :rotfl: My friend is a professional painter and decorator and she will use what the client wants her to and she says it's not worth the money. She gets equally good results and colours from most middle of the range paints, like Dulux, Crown etc.

Another friend won a load of F and B paint in a competition and she wasn't over impressed with it when she used it.

I consider any paint that includes MI in its ingredients as utter sh.1t so it's a no from me on F&B or Little Greene.

I'm smitten with Ecos organic paint. Gorgeous colours, different textures including chalky and blackboard and so natural you can safely eat it (should you want to).

I do like F&B although would prefer more colours in modern emulsion colours. What we did find when repainting some rooms was that Crown Estate Emulsion in our opinion is just as good. Very matte, although more limited colours.

My friend bought some F&B testers, initally didn't like the paint but now has it through her house, two coats required on new plaster (after mist coat in trade white emulsion)
