Is Farrow&Ball worth the extra money?

Options
Hipeople,

Just wondering if Farrow and Ball paint is worth the extra money, or is it just hype?

Many thanks in advance :)

Here's an older thread on this subject:

Also lots of discussion about it at Mumsnet, do a Google search and you'll find a couple of threads.

i was browsing your posts to see whether you were just rude to me or everybody.....

I have to reply to this because farrow and ball are worth every last penny and i love farrow and ball.....in my view it cannot be equalled......it is true colour...beautiful colour.....even the very neutral almost white colours are full of colour - it looks classy too and i can always tell when a room is decorated in farrow and ball........their modern emulsion is great and washable......its still matte but has a very tiny amount of shine.......their estate emulsion is great which is what i always use..Their egg shell is also great but i did need three coats to get the finish i wanted.....I use full gloss on my front door and it is sooo easy to use...brushes wash in water

A lot of F &B colours have an almost chameleon effect changing shade depending on the light and time of day......

You can buy tiny sample tins in all their colours.......

    i hope that was helpful

Might not help a lot of you but I got my Farrow and Ball paint from a charity shop that is linked with the community RePaint Scheme.
    http://www.communityrepaint.org.uk/

Its normally limited how many tins you can purchase and limited colour range but its heavily reduced price. Its been over a year but I think I paid £5 for the 2.5l tin compared to £38.

Got to say I was surprised by the quality of the paint. Compared to other paint brands where I've had to do at least 3 coats all I needed was 2 coats and I could've got away with one if I had put the paint on the wall slightly thicker with the pad.

Got to admit depending where the light hits the room the walls do look a different shade but I like that. And it was easy to clean the paintbrush and pad afterwards.

I've never used it but I may try it soon. I've heard lots of very bad things about the new Valspar range at B&Q.
  • I'd say good quality paint in general is worth it - the finish looks much better than when using the bog standard emulsion you get in B&Q etc. Even if you don't go with Farrow and Ball it might be worth looking at similar paints that use natural pigments.

We'll be completely remodelling our kitchen in a couple of months and we've picked Farrow and Ball for that as we've found a shade we like that we can't seem to find elsewhere.

Avoid B&Q paint. Farrow and ball to me is more gimmicky.

Little Greene make good quality paint. More expensive but better coverage and finish.

Dulux trade EVERY time (get it direct from a dulux centre) mix any colour far superior to farrow and ball - 99% of finishing trades would agree with this

Dulux trade is good but the colours aren't the same. I can guarantee that if you try to get a dulux match of something like Farrow and Ball or Little Green it won't work - I've tried a few times in an attempt to save money but it's just not the same.
