Depends on what operation/procedure is required. They use both hospitals and usually the top consultants from the NHS hospitals.

I beg to differ, the 'Top' NHS consultants are the ones who do extra free clinics in NHS hospitals over and above their contracted NHS hours :o

Ballykelly use current and retired consultants that can give them time for at least 2 clinics or surgery sessions a week, these are not necessarily 'Top' consultants :o
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

"Top" is hard to define. Highly subjective.

  • I have been a member for several years and they are extremely good value for money.
They are professional, helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The reason they are such a reasonable price is that they are non-profit making.
I have used both their GP line and the Ulster Independent Clinic.

I really appreciate everyone's feedback! I have made the decision to join with a couple of my family members. Fingers crossed I won't need to use it. I have enquired about Bupa's prices but they are definitely out of my league!:) I know now that Benenden Healthcare is not like Bupa but for £8.19 a month I have came to the conclusion to give it a go.:)

Well I was speaking from experience. My wife had her gallbladder removed 2 years ago and according to the nursing staff it was the top gallbladder consultant from the RVH who carried out the procedure.
  • i've been a member for years and have used them several times. you get a very quick 1st appointment, MRI scans if needed are within 7-10 days, minor surgery is less than 4 weeks.I find it best for quick diagnoses really. ive had surgery in ulster independent and daughter had sinus op in ballykelly with no complaints

Well the privately employed nursing staff would hardly say it was a third rate surgeon now would they :rotfl:

One of the very few perk of working in the NHS is that I get to know the consultant staff and their results very well, I'm surprised so many tax payers are so willing to privately fund their healthcare :o I suppose in the near future with current government policies we will all have to look into this more :o

I was listening to the radio a few weeks ago, someone from the BMA was on talking about the expansion of the Consultant treatment outcomes data. For some reason they were against publishing data. I wonder if it's even available in NI?
