Help i think i have been conned!

Hello
I have just had a new combi boiler installed and the guy was recommended to me by the guy who fitted my kitchen.

He told my husband he was corgi registered but once he started the work numerous things went wrong. He said he would be here then he never turned up etc
On completing the job he alwayts had excuses about the paperwork being left at the office etc. Then he said he would drop it through the letterbox......but nothing. He is not answering his phone so I went back to the kitchen guy and apparently he only knows the same as me his first name and mobile number.

I know its important to have the boiler signed off and to have paperwork so if I get an engineer in how can I find this man to take him to the small claims court? (to pay for the cost of engineer)

Any practical advise anyone? I don`t need anyone telling me how stupid my husband was in hiring the guy... believe me he knows from me how stupid he`s been which is why I am trying to rectify it

Thank you

He would need to be gas-safe registered in order to legally fit the boiler - maybe check with them. I am sure you have, but have you put the number into google to see what comes up?

    Don't you mean Gas Safe?

Try and find him (you can search via name) on http://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/help/check_an_engineer.aspx or give Gas Safe a call

If they can't find him all you could really do is report him to Gas Safe via http://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/report_business_form.aspx

Report him to the gas safe register with the details you have, then tell them you need the work checked as it could be dangerous to use the boiler.

You have no warranty if anything goes wrong without having a completed benchmark, you need an engineer who will inspect and do this for you. Search the gas safe register with your post code to find engineers in your area and explain the situation to them. A decent engineer should be sympathetic to your case and help you out, some wont touch it.
  • Thank you all for your replies I have a few leads to follow up now

says it all really if he told my husband that he was corgi registered!!!!!

Also tap him up to your local Trading Standards. It's bad enough that these people take the money of trusting customers - but idiots like this one can actually leave behind fatal consequences.

    Good luck Trixie.
  • Thank you yes I am going to go to trading standards...in response to an earlier message the phone number I taped into google gave me a womens name so that is no good......I am getting so angry now.........ooh I just had a thought we paid him by bank transfer so who would I give this information to?
