focus owned wicks then sold it to travis perkins, cerberus have now sold 60 odd stores, the store i work in closed yesterday 40 people out of work. Happy new year.

I fortunately got transferred to another store. However it does suck to close over Christmas and New Year :(

I believe the correct number was originally 52 'tactical' stores closing. Then they sold another 30 or so on top of those 51, so it was more like 80-90 stores closing in the end.

Stafford store all reopened as a Homebase!

Quite amazing how quickly it's been changed around - nice if HomeBase have kept all the staff too?

So...next big chain to close Wickes or Homebase my guessing? he he
  • Called in the Waterlooville branch on New Year's Day and no change since before Christmas. Still only 20% discount on most things and no massive bargains unless you want bags of sand for 51p.

Seems they want to string this one out as long as they can by adding various "cheap" stocking fillers like books and posters. Looks like they bought waaaaaaaay too many boxes of Belgian chocolate shells for Christmas - cases and cases of them at the tills but not moving even at BOGOF.

    Megamart.

Yes they have kept some of the staff there - my mate's brother used to work for Focus in Stafford and is working for Homebase now.

...and Wicks is just around the corner; not to mention B+Q mega store!

The closures that are meant to be happening at the end of January are no longer happening apart from one store (The won't tell us which one!). All closures that have a specific date are going ahead (except Shipley and Lincoln) (edit: S!!!!horpe No Frills closure also delayed) but those that are down as end of January will not be happening.

All the Focus stores with no date have had orders raised for certain lines to help tide them over until the end of March. All the remainder No Frills stores have just turned ordering back on and have been asked to only order key lines (Paint, Brushes, Lightbulbs etc).

So are you saying they are not closing at all or just not at the end of jan?

I wouldn't personally be opening a HomeBase in Stafford at the moment if I were a business.

The new B & Q is huge, and was the first and only DIY place in the town for a long time and has it's loyal customers. That topped with Wickes nearby, and the Homebase store being slightly out of the way...
