O/S Daily Tuesday 3rd February 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, looks cold and frosty. We have laying snow – it started during the evening last night and was quite a blizzard for a while, but the ground had dried out so it’s settled, not that much but it’s very cold and icy with it, so paths and roads are awful.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. I’ll be waking DS2 shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. Tonight is pasta carbonara, will saute some mushrooms to serve with it.

Work yesterday was very busy, so day flew by, it probably won’t be as busy first thing today due to the laying snow, but may get busier later as roads etc improve.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Bitterly cold night here last night. No new snow but the already lying snow is still frozen solid.

Our trip out yesterday ended in Skipton. There were a few hardy stallholders set up on the market and after a browse of those, a look in a few charity shops and a couple of discount shops, we felt the call of a roaring fire and didn't bother carrying on to Grassington after all! So lunch in Skipton instead! This kept us going till mid evening and then had an easy supper of some corned beef hash from the freezer.

We are making the most of the cold but dry weather and getting out as much as we can. We seemed housebound for long enough when we had that long spell of wind and rain just after Xmas. Which was then followed by endless snow showers.

Today we plan on Otley. Market day there (but only a small one) and a big selection of charity shops to keep me quiet! I always manage to pick up the odd bargain there.

Have a good day all whatever you are up to. Take care x

Some kind of pasta dish for dinner with salad and garlic bread, nice and quick when we get in. And I will do a wash tonight and put it on the airer.

Cold again but dry, got 3 loads of washing just about dry yesterday, just took 10 mins in the drier.

DW emptied, not a whole load of anything to wash today so will leave till tomorrow, packed lunches made (hm lentil soup). Not sure what to have for tea tonight, had roast chicken last night and it was lovely, think I was so hungry I could have eaten a scabby horse!

Builder called round to see about the bathroom, need to make a decision as to how to have the bath upstairs, could squeeze in a separate bath and shower but not sure. I'm usually quite good at deciding what I want but can't picture this at all.

Shower in a mo then work, need to try my best to stay awake tonight as I had a little nanna nap about 8pm and I didn't sleep too well last night as I had slept earlier!

Hope you all have a good day, keep warm and take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Gosh - it was minus 6 this morning in Glasgow and it's now a balmy minus 4 in Stirling. Brrrr.... Car just had a small amount of soft frost on it but then an error code showed up, yet another headlight bulb has blown. I've replaced three of the four in the last eight weeks so this is the last one to go. Will get it done this afternoon.

Busy day at work. Already had breakfast and answered the overnight emails.

Hope everyone is able to keep warm and safe.

Hello all. It's been along time since I popped in, although I've 'lurked' now and again.

It's very comforting to know you are all still here and good to see some familiar names still posting. It's like a comfort blanket, very cosy.

I'm feeling very stressed at the moment and suppose I needed to offload. My stepson has separated from his wife and moved in with us, he is unemployed but on a 'back to work' scheme but only working 4 days so seems to be around the house A LOT! He can't afford to go out or do anything and much as we do get on I just feel my space is invaded and my blood pressure is up. My GP's advice was for me to get out, do a yoga class or somesuch and she also upped my blood pressure medication!! My biggest concern is that until he gets a job there is no end date to this. So, basically, I have to put up with it as he can't afford to move out.
    Deep breaths!! And rant over...

Promise I'll try to keep in touch better and make any posts more cheerful.

    Hugs

    Cariad xx

Good morning chums Brr... its a nippy one today I looked out of the window at 3.30 not even a frost and yet by 7.30 there was a light dusting of the white stuff.Hopefully that will go during the day.My sis-in-law is coming to lunch today so lasagne is made and just have to put in the oven I will have to pop across to the shops to buy a cucumber and a small french stick as she likes bread.I don't eat it but I don't mind buying it for her to go with lunch(I'll give it to her to take home later what ever's left :):):))Fresh fruit salad for pudding and tonight I am at quiz so nothing to make for dinner.
I'll wrap up well though as its very cold here and the north wind is blowing a bit.I have a nice white wooly hat that my DD bought me a couple of years ago and I've dug that out as it covers my ears I'n not fussed at what I look like I'd rather be warm than 'fashionable' at my age being warm is more important.
Lots of hot drinks today and I think I may have enough HM soup for a starters for us before lunch.
I have a small gammon cooking in the SC overnight and my kitchen smells lush :):) That will do for several days for me with salad or in pasta and the tailend bits will go into some pea soup as I found a packet of dried peas yesterday at the back of the cupboard.Meals sorted for several days now :)
Right time for some hot coffee before I nip to the shop.
Cheers chums keep wrapped up as well as you can

  • Good morning all,

We had snow last night, not a lot, but some of it is still here. I think most of it will be gone by lunchtime.

LWW I am so sorry about Barney, he is probaby playing with our Toby in doggie heaven. Our pets always take a little bit of our heart with them, and that is how it should be. If we love our pets, and give them a happy life then it is natural we should mourn them as well sending hugs to you and your family.

I have a small amount of washing to do today, but not a lot of housework. I do want to some baking tomorrow though. Two grandchildren coming for their dinner on Thursday and I do like to send them back home with a bag of goodies, DD2 "doesn't make and doesn't bake", her words, so Nan does it instead.

The cat has it on her this morning charging around the house, but she is now looking out of the back bedroom window at the snow, she will be down shortly for her morning nap:rotfl:We love her dearly, and she seems to love us in her own way.

Might pop out later, we forgot the cat litter yesterday and we are down to our last bag.

TTFTM hope you are doing OK.

Take care everyone and stay safe and warm

  • Morning all.

Well, the snow started falling yesterday evening and it's still sitting here this morning. Quite attractive but a pain in the neck if you want to go out any distance.

We have to take the cat to the vet this morning for a follow up check. She's had a cough ever since her teeth extraction so I'll be asking if that needs to be treated. We were soft hearted and let her stay in the house last night because of the snow!

Other than that I have ironing to catch up with and maybe a cake to bake today.

Yesterday I was out all day with girlfriends at the V&A; so pleased it wasn't today!

Wrap up warm and walk carefully today folks.
