Just to share some info about the Barclays Cash Card (basic) account:
- Needs a branch appointment, one piece of ID, one proof of address.
- You'll be asked for your address history, which sounds like a credit check, but I double checked and they don't do one.
- Opened at 09:00 on Tuesday, card arrived in the post today (Thursday).
- Appointment lasted 40 minutes. Until recently Barclays used to do a sort of lengthy "aspirations" quiz as part of the process. Now they're allowed to skip most of it and it's just a few things to fill in.
- I was asked if I had any other accounts. Not a problem, but maybe have a good reason ready about why you want to open theirs too.0 -

Thanks for the info - that rules out Barclays for me - just one to open one online without any hassleTypically confused and asking for advice0 -

Following the recommendations of others on this thread, I opened an RBS account online and it was very quick and easy. The credit check is the only slight disadvantage I can think of when compared with the Barclays option.
I think the RBS and Natwest application forms are very similar, not surprisingly!0 -
Hi I opened a current account with Barclays Online no problem. I ended up going with TSB online to set up another donor account.
Both done easily.0 -
No thought of using TSB already have accounts with them so might be easier. Don't want to switch the vantage account incase the rate increases some time in the futureTypically confused and asking for advice0

Looked at Barclays - sure it said had to be opened in branch.
Opened another one each with Lloyds hopefully to use as donors for flexdirect accounts - if I have got it right and can apply again once you have not had an account for a year.
Nat West account also opened just waiting for paper work hoping to be able use for donor for M&S, so can have the 6% regular saver.
Just not sure how long you need to keep them open before you can use them to switch, anyone any idea?Typically confused and asking for advice0
