o2 contract query

Hello,

Just before Christmas i took out a contract from Carphone Warhouse on O2. It was the iPhone 6 on a 4g tariff.

I started to notice that i was getting really bad internet coverage on my phone but most of the time i was connected to WiFi at home and at work so i didn't notice the issues. Now my job needs me to travel about a bit more and access my emails on the road. For the last few weeks i have had 4g about 4 times, 3g around 10 times and GPRS for the rest.

I spoke to an O2 representaitive this morning and they said that 4g coverage was limited across the country and it's normal that i'm getting 3g (even though i don't even get that).

WHen i took out the contract they raved about 4g and how fast it was, they never once mentioned that i'd probably never see it as it's limited to very select areas of the country.

I could (and would) have stated with EE if i knew it would be this bad as i never had a problem with them before and my work colleague on the same phone has 3g or 4g pretty much all of the time on his EE phone.

I'd like to know my options here. I know it's been 2 months or so since i took the contract but as i mentioned i never previously noticed the poor internet because i was always on wifi. Now that wifi isn't possible when i travel it's become a huge problem.

I can't get by for another 2 years having this awful connection.

ps - i've tried all the troubleshooting as i just went through it all with the o2 rep.

Thanks.

4g is patchy - I am with 3 and upgraded to the unlimited £15 data plan (thankfully only for 6 months as I am on 12 month sim only deal) and I rarely get 4G at home - and even 3G keeps dropping.

You can complain to O2 (by making a formal complaint, not just talking on 202 to their tech people) - they might give you a little discount but not huge given you got a shiny new free iphone 6 with it.

I have the iphone 5s and I sometimes think its these Apple phones that are ****. You can try turning off LTE mode - so no 4G just connect to available 3G when you can't get 4G.

    Thanks for the reply.

Well the phone wasn't free, i had to pay an upfront price for it. can't i claim that i was mis-sold the 4g contract? they raved about how good 4g was and how it would be miles better than what i'm used to (3G) not once did they say it'd be rare that i ever have it.

But when i have to tether to my colleagues phone on EE just to download emails it's pretty bad.

If i could send the phone back, and cancel my contract i'd do it in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't mind so much if i could even get 3g but as we speak i'm on GPRS with 1 bar of phone signal.

Depends on the reception at your home.
If its poor at your home address (or business one if you purchased it for business and on business account).
If you were lucky enough to cancel the contract, it would be the cost of the phone you would have to fork out (I think).

I managed to get out T-Mobile contract - be it was 2-3 months on 12 month sim only plan. That took a lot of complaining, If I had had a phone given to me, the cost of the phone would have been part of the termination fee I suspect.

Now my 3 reception at home is poor and I want to complain but only got 4 months left so living with it. 3 offer a signal booster for home. You could ask O2 if they do that too.

Do you have actual evidence of that ??That is the sticking point if they deny any such claim of 4g .

Might be worth asking CPW if they can swap the contract to another network .
  • I filed small claims court action against my mobile phone operator as a result of suffering poor signal over an extended length of time.

They refunded me a majority of my line rental costs etc
