I have a funny round disc thingy in the front window. Should i declare that?

    Depends what it is.

If is one of those obsolete tax disc things might as well remove it.

Its a magnetic holder though and the backing cover is my handsfree antenna.

2 birds with one stone originally. Tax disc holder and antenna all in one. I just threw the original holder backing disc away.

Like many mods, a bit garish and poor taste. But damned them insurers can be sticklers when it comes to undeclared mods. If a bunch of stickers and an extra fag lighter socket can void your policy, what will be next? Baby-on-board stickers, air fresheners, non OEM wiper blades, child seats, Rick Astley cd's in stereo?!

Where does it say anything about extra cigarette lighter?

It says it in the linked article
She was given 10 days to explain why she had not told them about the stickers, and an additional cigarette lighter point in the boot, when she took the policy out.

Halfway down the page, 3rd paragraph after the picture of the car,
She was given 10 days to explain why she had not told them about the stickers, and an additional cigarette lighter point in the boot, when she took the policy out.

It also says they have decided not to void the policy because their policy wording wasn't clear enough.

In other words, the press got hold of the story and they are going for damage limitation.

Insurers are scum bags, any excuse.

It's not clear from the reports whether the lady was insured for business use. If she wasn't, then I think she has no complaint.

But what is her business? Presumably saving souls, ministering to the poor and sick, and converting the heathen. Does she do that 9-5, or 24/7? I suspect she should be insured for business.
  • Insurers have a pretty hard time voiding policies ab inito , the ombudsman won't let them get away with it unless the abuse by the policyholder is severe and the insurer would not have accepted the risk under any circumstances. The road traffic act has something to say about it as well (section 148), once the certificate has been issued, the insurer cannot avoid meeting liabilities to third parties.
