All passenger cars are more or less the same widths apart from super minis. When your park you car on the street you should see the offside mirror and notice that all cars line up.

They're all usually built with a standard max width in mind so they can fit inside parking bays, lanes, garages etc. All cars need to use the same roads & parking spaces - dont forget.

This seems to be more or less true of the Ford range. The last time I checked the brochures, all their cars are approximately the same width, except the Fiesta and Ka which are narrower.

As a data point, the current model Fiesta will fit in a 2.4m wide garage, provided the occupants are nimble.

Measurements of car widths is confusing, with at least 3 different measurements appearing:
    - Width over mirrors
    - Width over folded mirrors (but I find mirrors useful when reversing out of my garage)
    - Width without mirrors
  • Well some do spend a lot of time at the dealers :)

Beat me to it. I was going to say in my experience they're mostly kept in dealers' workshops between short periods of use.

Bollox - What are they doing, making parking spaces narrower every year?
My old Passat only just fits in some, and big modern cars are way wider than that.
Just look round a car park at the big new cars.

Don't forget that 4 door models have smaller doors so they open wider in garages and are easier to get out of the car.

It's true, as I discovered with my late single garage, but give me a 3 door version of vehicle any day of the week.
