Moving the thick electrical cable that comes into house

Currently planning on tidying up under the stairs in the hallway (open plan) and getting a new 17th edition consumer unit fitted, but the main incoming cable (comes up through the floor) is about 12-16" further out from where it needs to be, to the point of if was further back, the cabinet its housed in could be half the size it is now. Is this a big job to get moved, as in time/cost/labour etc?
Is it a job only for the electricity board?

Electricity board job, and will cost megabucks.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

A sparks can pull the main fuse, move the consumer unit and house wiring then issue a certificate after which the local electricity distributor will move their 100A fuse, meter and reconnect the household supply. You could be looking at upwards of £1000 for that.0

This is the job of your DNO (Distribution Network Operator) who manage the supply infrastructure. You can find yours here;

Here in Yorkshire it's Northern Power Grid. Typical costs here;

With a starting price of £555+VAT and an average cost of £856+VAT it's rarely worth doing unless it's totally in the way i.e. you're building an extension or doing some other major works.0 -

Main fuse is downstream from the main supply cable so power supply company only.0

where it comes through the floor is it a wooden floor or concrete0

If it were my house, the floor wooden and the incoming cable visible in good condition, id be tempted to lift some boards and ease the cable back against the wall whilst wearing my electrically insulated gloves of course.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

OP please do not try any of the above "fixes" !
Might be jesting but to even suggest moving a live cable backed up by something like a 600A fuse back in the electricity boards sub station is down right idiotic ! not to mention Illegal as you are intefering with the DNO supply cable.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
We had our cable moved about a meter, from one wall to another, I can't remember the exact cost but sure it was under £200! I will check later, if it helps? This was in the summer. Muckybutt is right, so not worth touching it yourself0
