Buyer didn't sign for item .. so frustrating!

.. here is the message:
" Hi,

I still have not received this but this is not your fault.
I kept missing the delivery as a signature is required and where I live it's impossible to hear the door as there's two points of entry.

Basically they are returning the item back to you. Can you resend it or issue me a refund as I obviously want the item I paid for.

Let me know the best solution "

.. it made me want to scream!
My question is, How do I issue a refund minus the postage?
Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE :)

You can try issuing a refund without the postage but if buyer then opens a claim the postage will be refunded as well. To do a partial refund just log into Paypal find the transaction, click on issue refund and then put the amount you want to resend.

I would strongly suggest a full refund though even though it seems unfair as it will save a possible case and neg against you

You might also remind the buyer that in future he can collect the item if he wishes from the mail centre

Incidentally- was postage shown as signed for on the listing?

thanks for the advice, no, she didn;t sign for it. She seems to want me to send it again, but I don't want the hassle of her not signing it again or picking it up from the P.O/

I wouldn't send it again until the buyer addresses the issue they have with deliveries.

Soolin is asking if the postal service was listed as signed for on purchase. If it was then you can justifiably withhold that on refund. On the other hand, if you listed as second class post and then sent signed for, the buyer could have opted to use a different service (if you offer) or shop elsewhere.

I'll often opt out of a signed for delivery as I have a secure place to leave post, so if I'm out it gets left, and if it's signed for I have to go to a sorting office to collect.

The problem is that if you refund in full, you will receive a defect.

The way to refund in full would be to send the payment to your buyer through Paypal. You will lose your FVF but will avoid a defect

What happens if the buyer than opens a claim in ebay? In theory couldn't they claim for two refunds, the official ebay one and the money you sent via Paypal?

They could do that, but that's the risk you take. I do it for low value goods as I don't want a defect as eBay assumes if you refund in full it is because you are out of stock.

Thanks for the advice, I am just going to offer her a full refund, to save my positive feedback, although, buyers like her should be banned from buyingitems needing a signature. She is the 2nd one in the last month.. it is so frustrating to see the items returned to me because they couldn't be bothered to pick it up!

Does RM tracking say it is being returned? I think I would wait for it to arrive back before refunding. It is difficult to trust such a flaky buyer.
