Bought the car three months ago but I'm not happy with repair work carried out by previous owner

Ive got to tell my insurer because I need to swap insurance to a loan car for 2 days

Is there a chance they could assume I caused the damage and increase premium next year

You are having "repairs" done, you do not need to inform the insurer of the nature or cause of the required work, it is not a notifiable event. You just need to get them to insure the loaner, exactly the same as you would if you were having engine work done.
  • You need to inform them of the changes to the vehicle. Use of non manufacturer paint will be classed as a modification. Furthermore, adding filler to any body panels would cause an imbalance to your vehicle which may cause your policy to be cancelled ab initio.

Yes, if you ever touch in a bit of paint work, you must tell your insurers.

Who are these people who spend their lives giving out misinformation? Please ignore this idiot.

You can hire a car without using your own insurance, of course.

Filler to body panels would add an imbalance?

so putting a can of coke in the cupholder would cause an imbalance too and would need declaring to insurance?? , putting a child in a car seat behind the driver would cause excess weight to one side of the vehicle causing an imbalance so would therefor need declaring??

Should you inform the insurance company that you have started the car this morning, and filled it full with petrol, got new tyres.

Get real with you're idiotic comments

Interesting.... I have a couple of queries...

I have a large pile of bird s*** on the front of the bonnet, will this imbalance the car? Do I need to inform the insurers?

I am a couple of stones heavier than my other half, will this imbalance the car? Do I need to inform?

    Beaten to it :)

Does this mean your own car will not be insured for 2 days?
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

His car will be in the care of the garage so covered by their policy. However it is more than likely the loan car will be a temporary additional vehicle so two cars will be on the OPs policy.

I knew his car would (hopefully) be covered by the garage's insurance. Putting an extra car on the policy makes more sense than "swapping the insurance". OP's post is badly worded.

Be aware that if you put an additional cover note in the glove compartment, you may unbalance the car.

I've liked straighttalker's post because I'm assuming it's a rather subtle dig at a certain other thread where some people don't seem to comprehend the difference between a theoretical change - such as allowing your car to warm up and expand in the sun, thereby throwing the geometry out - and one that actually makes a difference in the real world.

At least, I seriously hope that's what it is 'cos if he's serious and allowed to breed then humanity is doomed!!!!! :D
