No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries February 2015

  • Molton brown gingerlily, pink pepperpod, black peppercorn body lotions- all 100ml so only used for a couple of applications. My fave is pink pepperpod and i would probably repurchase as the smell of the lotion stays all day and its an effective moisturiser.

Just curious but how do you go through these so quickly? I have some 100mls and they last me ages! I slather all over with them too. Even my mini 30ml lasts a week or more!
  • I have a confession to make.

I bought the urban decay naked palette. :o
  • Another UU to report - I used the Phoenix rising bath bomb this evening. And a lovely bath it was! Smells lovely and it's stunning to watch when you chuck it in the water. Only problem is it's stained my bathtub a bit! Would still buy again though!

Also can anyone recommend products that might tame my unruly skin? You all seem clued up on skin products :-) I've had acne from my teenage years and I'm now 24 and still suffering. It's got especially bad recently as my stress levels have rocketed with my parents splitting up and to top it off a disagreement with a friend who meant a lot to me (and still does). I am literally pizza face :-( gp put me on a pill called co- cyprindiol which I've been on for ages. Whenever I ask about my skin she just says to keep taking the prescribed pills but I'm seeing no improvement :-/ my skin care regime consists of using a simple facial wash followed by simple light moisturiser and an eye cream at night. I've no idea what toners etc do as I don't have a clue about skincare! I've tried blemish sticks and various spot treatment gels etc I either react to them and my skin gets worse or they don't work. Simple products don't seem to do any damage but I think I need something a bit stronger to tackle my bad skin. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

  • Gemzie121 I really hope someone will be able to offer you some good advice. I also use just Simple products for my face and find them to be really good. I hope you find something that will help.

A UU to report this morning - Aquafresh mouthwash. Replaced with the same.
Thank you to everyone who posts on here :)

Gemzie - sorry to hear you're so stressed :( I'm sure others on here will be able to make more informed recommendations - I'm very lucky with my skin other than the occasional hormonal spot / oiliness - but I'd suggest going as natural as possible and paring everything right back, nothing too harsh which could aggravate further. A range I've not used a great deal, but was impressed with, is Liz Earle - the hot cloth cleanser left my skin feeling incredibly soft, clean and clear, with no tightness. I hope you find a routine that works for you.

Fiasco - argh to the bathroom drama, how awful! You must be so fed up and I can completely empathise with you, my bathroom refurb took over a month in total (instead of two weeks!) thanks to several mishaps - wrong toilet, walls not plastered evenly enough for the tiler's liking, not enough floor tiles... - but was completely worth it in the end. I still adore it every time I walk in, and all the hassle was worth it. Hopefully yours will be too - hope it's sorted soon!

I would be reluctant to mess too much with your routine if I were you as it is not what you are doing to your skin that is causing the problem. Do you wear makeup? If so something more than a facial wash may be needed to remove it so maybe use the wash in the morning and a cleanser at night. Could your foundation be the problem if you use any?

Diet - could this be a problem area, I know it is for my breakouts, I have a good diet food wise but eat too much sugar in between.

  • Forgot to post my UU:

10/30. S&G Butter Yourself 300ml - WBA, been a while since I used S&G body butters and I really enjoyed this. Lovely zesty fragrance and very rich but absorbed well and didn't leave any stickiness. The matching shower gel will kick it soon - need to pick my next combo!

    I also have INs:

16-17/28-29. Maybelline Brow Satin Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown - this was needed and I managed to pick up two for £5, less than the usual price of one, in a MrB glitch - so no guilt over these!

I have a couple of lovely surprise INs from DH's trip away which I'll post later when I have them to hand.

Lol! It is so lovely! I resist the urge myself as I don't put make up enought to justify it :p

I have an IN - Dove Toning Shower Gel. From Poundworld. Smells lovely and needed one.

Sorry to hijack but I made a thread for skin cleansing brushes and need suggestions if anyone uses them , if you could spare couple of minutes :o

As others have said I wouldn't change too much at a time and then keep everything very gentle. Omega 3's are important and in quite high quantities, plenty of water and if you have a sweet tooth cut right back on the sugar, chocolate etc. Increase the amounts of salads/green vegetables in your diet to as much as you can. This way you will be giving your skin a boost from the inside out and hopefully as your stress levels fall this will help too.

Also very important "don't touch your face" adds bacteria into the mix:( If I am doing nothing I often have to put my hands into my pockets or even sit on them to stop myself from touching the itchy/sore bits - eczema in my case:(:(

I hope that life becomes easier for you soon:)

In regards to skin I would go back to your GP. I dont know how long you have been on the pill but I will tell you it takes months of usage to make any real difference, go back to your GP and explain that it is making no difference, somethings work for some and not others. I have been taking the same low dose antibiotic for 6 months for a skin condition called HS and only seen a slight improvement so I am off to the dermatologist at the end of March. It is really frustrating and it does take a long time to sort and please remember we are all different and what works for some does not work for others.

Diet, vitamins, make up, skin care regimes for me made very little difference and you do try everything hoping it will help, I remember taking beetroot extract because someone said it worked, it did not for me. Stress always made it worse both facial acne and HS. A good cleansing routine probably had the best impact such as making sure as soon as I got in all make up was removed, avoiding products that contained alcohol as this just inflames my face. i do double cleanse either with a hot cloth cleanser or oil cleanser followed by a face wash but as long as ther products aren't harsh what I use does not make a huge difference. When you get home remove all make up to allow your skin to breath and at weekends I only wear make up if I am going out. The sun was the only thing that cleared my skin up but due to whaqt damage it does I avoided this. I wish you luck, it is not easy but you will find something that will help, it just takes time.
