Virgin Media to Talk Talk

Hi All,

I am after some advise.

Last year I called my broadband provider (Virgin Media) and got a deal on my broadband and phone calls with a contract till what is either the end of this year or beginning of next year (2016).

The other day i received a letter from Virgin telling me I am being moved over to talk talk. After some research it appears Virgin Media have sold all there ADSL customers over to talk talk (after years of loyal service to them as well they have just dumped me!!!).

I do not want to go to talk talk. Everyone I know who has used talk talk has had nothing but issues with them.

My questions is where do i stand? Obviously I agreed with Virgin to sign up for a contract which runs out at the end of this year/next year and would be charged a fee by them if i left early. However as they are moving me to a new contract with a different company against my will, do i have rights to leave them with out being charged a leaving fee?

Thanks

yes, but why don't you see what price they offer and what the service is like first. At the point of transfer, you're still classed as a virgin net customer, talk talk billing comes later

  • Just to put your mind at ease, I have been a talktalk customer for at least 6 yrs and never had a problem!

Usually when a company 'sells' all their customers to another company, you have the option of moving, penalty free, if you don't want to be a customer of the 'new' company , pretty sure when Sky took over O2 , you could move to another company if you wanted, provided you told them within a short period of time, customer inertia means the majority will transfer without probably noticing until the bill comes from the new company

    Hi nfbottle

I'd disagree with some of the posts here.

You signed a contract with Virgin Media. TalkTalk have taken over VM's responsibilities in the contract.

As long as TT don't breach the terms of the contract, you can't either.

(Businesses are sold and companies are taken over all the time - their contracts don't automatically become void.)

So you can cancel on the terms described in your VM contract (with the relevant cancellation fees).

Although TT may decide to let customers cancel as a gesture of goodwill - or because it suits their business model. You can ask...

... but as TT have presumably paid VM a lump of cash to take over their customer base, TT may not just let those customers walk away now.

Talktalk provide an acceptable service at a competitive price. Remember that the people who post on forums are the ones having bad experiences. I have been with TalkTalk since they swallowed up Tiscali, and get on OK with them.
I'm sure they will honour whatever deal you had with Virgin, but after a while you will need to "go native" and move to one of their current tariffs, and agree a contract term with them.
