skipping last leg of flight

Hello guys!
I got a flight from Luxembourg to new york, as I`m anyway in Luxembourg that time I don`t bother the connection flight to LHR. However, on the way back I will fly from JFK to LHR with a 11 hour stopover in Heathrow, and than continue to LUX. My question now, can I demand to get my luggage checked to Heathrow as its a long stopover? How else can I get around taking the last leg to LUX and just fly to Heathrow?
Airline would change ticket, but for £350 on top of the price to LUX.
any ideas?
Thanks!

throwaway ticketing (what you are suggesting) is a breach of the ticketing rules. Some airlines are clamping down on this more than others and refuse to short check baggage, you can only ask nicely (you cannot "demand") - maybe stating that you are meeting someone in Heathrow and need to give them some of the contents of the luggage but even then they may refuse.
another thing to consider though is that your contract is to get you from New York to Luxembourg and the airline could (unlikely though it may be) reroute you via a totally different city. Only way to guarantee you can travel from New York to London is to change the ticket
It may be cheaper just to buy a ticket to get back from LUX to London than pay to change
by the way, the board you have posted on is for reporting holiday bargains0 -
Which airline is it, I often have something come up that makes my last London-EU leg redundant
With such a long stopover most airlines will short check your baggage if you let them know you have a hotel booked at the airport in order to change and shower
Some are less obliging these days due to hidden city ticketing becoming more of a problem, but thanks to 9/11 your bags aren't going anywhere without you
If they won't short check your bags let the ground staff know asap on arrival in London, especially if you are scheduled to be flying from another terminal.0 -
Hello,
caz,
I know its not expensive to fly back from LUX, its £24 but its on the day after which is quite inconvenient, so i prefer to disappear in Heathrow.
how can I move the topic? cant find a button to move it in right section

flight is booked with british airways but operated by american airlines if that helps. so what would happen to my luggage if I miss the last leg in case they check it through? I mean the flight is on American from JFK-LHR but than change to british airways for the last leg. any ideas? I know for example when I connected in March in NYC to Miami I had to pick my luggage and put it on a connection belt, is there something in heathrow?0 -

No, there's no such thing in Heathrow (unless your connection is overnight? At 11 hours I guess it probably is). AA most likely will refuse to short-check your bag (ask anyway, but be prepared for them to say no), and it will be offloaded if you just don't show up for the LUX flight. You'll need to go to a British Airways desk and get them to locate the bag to return it to you. They could theoretically charge you the £350 change fee you mentioned earlier unless you come up with a good reason, but they probably won't. It could be a long wait to get your bag back though.0 -
AA will normally short check baggage, if they refuse sort it out at the transfers desk before you go landside, if you're quick enough you'll be able to collect it from the baggage carousel along with other passengers on your flight
Don't go to the BA desk to sort it out, doing that will cost you several hours, by the time you get there you bag will be in T5 and it takes bloody ages to get baggage returned to your terminal then cleared through customs without you being present
They can't charge you any sort of change fee for missing a final leg :rotfl:0 -

Is there a ticket you could buy where you land at Heathrow from New York, then the connecting flight to Luxumbourg leaves at Gatwick/City airport - then they have to give you your bags back then..0

Normally this is the advice before the ticket has been bought as in this case the OP mentions change fees
However it is not relevant in this case as Luxair operate the flights from City to Lux and the Gatwick flight is operated by Easyjet. BA only fly to/from Heathrow. the only way I could see this working is, if on booking, OP had booked an overnight connection in Heathrow (still <24 hours)0 -
Hello!
the flight arrives around 5.30am in Heathrow and departs 18:25 from Heathrow to LUX.
so probably no chance to get my bags in LHR? I know flight with luxair to LCY from LUX is just £22, but still inconvenient. seems I have to take the hit and book it and see if AA checks my luggage short, if I`m lucky I burn £24, if not, well, I loose some time.
thanks guys!0 -

No they can't
BA conditions of carriage
3c2) Your ticket is no longer valid if you do not use all the coupons in the sequence provided in the ticket. Where you change your travel without our agreement and the price for the resulting transportation you intend to undertake is greater than the price originally paid, you will be requested to pay the difference in price. Failure to pay the price applicable to your revised transportation will result in refusal of carriage.
So they can ask you nicely to pay the fare difference, but if you refuse their recourse, which is clearly outlined in their COC, is to cancel your ticket :rotfl:
I use hidden city and throwaway ticketing on a regular basis, flying out of numerous EU countries can allow you to travel ridiculously cheaply.
Have a look at on American Airways for LUX-JFK-LUX 15-26 April currently £271.39 then compare the pricing for the same flights ex LHR
Don't forget that you can check in luggage at stopovers, I'll often leave luggage in the UK then check it in on the way back through which saves the hassle and expense of taking your luggage to the EU
I'm flying EU-JFK-EU then EU-BKK-EU for less than the price quoted above later this year, there's some great savings to be found if your know where to look :j
I'll be skipping two legs and a recalculation would cost me £1,000+, in the unlikely event that I'm contacted by the airline I think I'll just let them cancel the legs I won't be flying :money:0
