Accident this morning

Not a good comparison.
My thinking is the way/position it was "parked" may of exposed it to this type of incident. Plus it may of not been visible if it was dark. Think of the requirements of leaving a skip on the road overnight.
But anyway no point debating the point further unless we know the answer to the question.
I see more skips without lights than with lights and have manage to avoid all of them.
Even if you hit an unlit one you'd not be without blame.
The OP was driving a company car, his company insurance will cover it so whether is a 50/50 or all his fault what does it matter?0 -
The OP says they skidded when coming out of their road into the caravan.
Even is something is in a really stupid place and with no lights etc the moving vehicle is the vast majority at fault if not 100% as ultimately you are responsible for driving in such a way as to be able to safely stop in the case of an emergency based on road conditions, visibility etc.
The only two cases I know where a static object has been held liable is (1) a car parked just passed the apex of a blind bend and (2) a lamp post that was sited 2' into the road and in both cases the driver was 80% responsible. For (2) the council only was given 20% liability because of their heightened duty of care to road users and just how stupid it is to have a lamp post 2 foot into the road0 -

Not sure why I'm biting.... but....BeenThroughItAll wrote: »You and many others might not like them, but if that's someone's pride and joy that's not a very charitable point of view.
I don't like them. That's my point of view. I did spend a week in Wales in one in my teens. I now have a slight loathing of both, which is probably unfair on Wales.
How would you feel if it was your car being hit by someone who couldn't control their car in wintry conditions?[/QUOTE]
About the same level of anger as I feel when stuck behind one down one of our interminable roads with few straight sections and a driver who is going just quickly enough to make passing a pain but slowly enough a tailback has ensued. And selfish enough to not pull over for mile after mile.
Does that address your queries?0 -

But we all have things we don't like, that doesn't mean we wish ill on those who do. I don't like Mercedes, Ford, Vauxhall, Renault, Dacia, Audi, Seat, Nissan and Toyota cars. I don't get any pleasure out of their owners having accidents in them though.

Believe me, I'd much rather be doing 60MPH on that road towing my caravan instead of the mandated 50MPH, and I am far more likely to get stuck behind a solo car-driver doing 40MPH than I am another caravanner.
That said, I find it incredibly annoying when I see another caravanner without towing mirrors, driving too slowly, driving too quickly, with a badly loaded van snaking away behind their car, or acting otherwise selfishly or ignorantly to other road users. Equally I feel the same about idiotic motorcyclists giving the rest of us a bad name, or moronic drivers six inches away from the bumper of the car in front in fog with no lights on (etc. etc.).
There are plenty of ignorant solo motorists who are unaware of the speed limit on our roads and who insist on trundling along at 40MPH, or those who won't overtake or leave sufficient room for the rest of us to overtake them.
Presumably, you also extend your ire to the innumerable LGVs, buses, vans, horseboxes etc that also drive slowly enough to cause a hold-up to you, and who are equally unlikely to pull over, or are they a different case because they're not caravanners?
Instead of wishing ill on those who choose to own a caravan, why not direct your anger towards ignorant drivers, who come in all sorts of vehicles.0 -

I don't think you'll change people's views on shed pulling, but if it was someone's pride and joy why leave it on the road?
Personally I think there's nothing better than seeing an upended caravan, especially when he's a member of the Irish caravan club.0
