Talktalk Fibre Large Installation?

I have ordered Talktalk Fibre Large, I was told I can not self install, but I could if I wanted the 38mbps package. I opted for the 78 instead.

I received a letter today stating the engineer will be arriving between 8 am and 1pm and the install takes 3 hours???

What does the install entail? 3 hours sounds like they are digging the street up and rewiring the house? is this normal? (Slight exaggeration )

Not a lot on info about online, I came across a TT forum which said they do not install FTTH, but if it isn't FTTH, why would it take 3 hours? or has it changed so vastly in the last 6 months that they are now offering FTTH?

The BT Open Reach engineer may arrive as booked .

If so it will be a change of the master socket .
Go back in the van to the nearest cabinet and change connections .
Back to you and test the connection is the norm .
3 hours unlikely about an hour more usual .

Thanks for that. Got a bit worried about the 3 hour time frame as we have a hospital appointment for our daughter at 2pm so a 3 hour install arriving at 1pm would have been a nightmare.

I wondered if it needed a new line, it just seems strange I could self install a 38mbps router but 78 requires an engineer.

Hopefully it is as good as they say rather than the "UPTO 17Meg ADSL" which we are lucky to get 3meg With a 0.38mbps upload.

We were quoted upto 80/20 mbps with a tested capacity of 72-77 down and 20 up

When Openreach put my Plusnet fibre in, the engineer called to say he was swapping me over at the cabinet then 20mins later came round to install the new socket and modem. 20 mins later, I was online.
I had the 80 or 40 meg option. I had ordered 40 meg, but the engineer said I was getting 80 meg at the modem, so I guess it's the same product. but throttled somewhere by the ISP
Can't see that TT would be any different?

I had a similar experience to above, My old internet dropped offline. Then the engineer called to say its done that end, can he come and do the faceplate.

Sorted in no time at all. My only hinderance was i didnt have the router. But i had a spare BT one and that worked.

Estimated 68mb on my line. Actual 73mb. Engineer said its actually faster than that on his test, But capped by the ISP to 73.

I read too many threads where OR did not turn up and feared the worst.

Cool, I got my "Super Router" that the engineer is supposed to install, whacked that in and it is working on my current ADSL connection and awaiting the engineer visit to change the cables over in the big green box.

It's strange that the 38 meg is self install and the 76 is engineer installed, its the same router and is just a case of plugging it in.

I have used my existing 3 meter cable instead of the 1 meter one as the 1 meter cable isn't long enough and the existing one is tucked away nicely in conduit. hopefully won't be an issue
