Love my down duvets and feather pillows. I also used to have a feather mattress , most comfortable sleep ever completely cocooned with no draughts getting in anywhere ( I don't heat the bedrooms and have the window open)

ATM I still have the summer duvet on but may have to switch to winter weight soon as it's getting very cold here

Before buying make sure you feel the duvet as what feels rough on your hand will feel 10 times worse on your body. My choice is always down as previously said its like sleeping on a cloud

I found the down pillow and duvet much more comfortable and warm. Unfortunately after one night I then discovered I was allergic to them, and lost the ability to breathe. I get allergic reactions to dust and perfumes but not pets, so this came as a bit of a surprise - just thought I'd mention it in case you have any allergies lurking in the background.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

where the hell do you live

summer weight duvet, no heating and window open!

I don't like being too hot in bed but have 2 duvets on atm and the electric blanket on low. My room is about 15c at night.
  • Just wondering where everyone purchased the down duvets from. Prices seem to vary lots. Is there significant difference say from between Dun elm and JL with regards to the quality. Is it worth paying the extra?

The cheaper ones have more feather.

Feather is heavier than down and is cheaper.

If you prefer a light duvet, go for the most down you can afford, if you prefer more weight to a duvet, then your main concern then becomes the thread count used on the cover, as feather has pointy bits, the better the cover the less likely they will poke through.

Duck down and feather are smaller than goose, so again, you decide what you prefer, with duck, it will take more to fill a duvet, so tends to have more weight, which means cheaper than goose. The more you spend does not mean you are necessarily getting better quality, just a different duvet with different qualities.

I bought mine from The White Company, yes it was expensive , but its absolutely brilliant also as " cassettes " , they have a 10 year guarantee, ive had it over 8 years worth every penny....

I bought my down duvet from Ikea a number of years ago, think it was about £90 but I love it because it is so light and moulds around your neck when its chilly.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

Thanks all for the input thus far. Sounds like down is the most favoured. Might see if there are any lurking in the end of Jan sales.

Btw, do natural duvets have a tog rating too? Apparently tog 10.5 is the best all year rounder for synthetic at least.
  • I just bought a 10.5 tog snowgoose down duvet from amazon(the boston one by fogarty). It suits me too a T,amazing snuggle factor!
I went to look at the White House version as they had a sale on but even with my extravagant tastes could not bring myself to pay 500 quid for it.This one cost me 345 so in a sense I got a bargain lol.
