Yes they can, although these 'ad-hoc' searches will not damage your credit rating. From the Virgin (and presumably other MBNA cards') T&C's...

It's the latest CC phase, Bad Debts is this years buzzword, so the great brains running these Companies have worked out that of you have no customers and no balances, you can't get bad debts. Once these muppets have moved on the next brains will probably be desperately trying to sell us CC's with huge limits! Yes I am cynical, and yes I dislike their tactics as I have occasionally mentioned.
Regarding being called at work, I have acted as you have in trying to help, but afterwards thinking it was inappropriate. Lesson learnt!

Think Equifax have realised Martins tip to register for 69.99 check credit raiting then cancel, I have tried - doesnt work you have to pay 9.95 to view your credit raiting. Just checked mine and guess what yes its wrong, balance that was transfered 3 month ago from one card to another is showing 3 month in arrears, see how long it takes them to correct my file - so you see mr virgin credit card nasty man I am not in default!!!!!

Is anybody still up?
Im new to this so sorry for invading this thread but I desparately need some advice. I have recently mae the decision to stop internet bingo playing, it has rruined the past few months of my life, I was gambling after a cosuin introduced me to a site last year, I spent too much and cancelled it. Then you guessed it, I opened a new account with another bingo site (hubby doesnt kknow about this one, he went mad about the last time), and Ive spent all my hard earned cash again. I have just sent them an email asking if they can close my account but the trouble is i moved house 2 months ago, and havent changed my address with my bank for fear of other half seeing how much i have lost!
I know I need to stop n pay all the debts, just wondered if anyone had any advice
