Virgin Credit Card

I have never been so mad in all my life. Today I received a call from Virgin at my place of work asking me some very personal questions concerning a review on my credit reference. The call handler I spoke with knew I was at work but continued to ask these embarrising questions - like- what my earnings were and asked me why I was so much in debt. He also said that I was 3 month in default of a credit card payment (which by the way was not Virgin) I transfered the balance to another card 3 months ago) the credit card company credited 50.00 back into my account as I had overpaid. The he went on to say that he was lowering my credit limit on my card. I have never missed a credit card payment with Virgin or any other cards I have. I tried to explain that the card was paid off 3 months ago, but he said the filr was up to date. I have never been so embarrased in all my life!!!. I have tried to register online with Equifax but there is a problem with their system which made me more angry. HELP

  • If the company thinks your in too much debt then im afraid this is how they will act, they are tightening up on lending as they are concerned theres going to be a credit crunch ie far too many fools and there borrowed money that cant pay it back.

The reason why I am so mad is that the call handler was asking me personal financial questions at my place of work, they have my home and mobile number-why not call there first. They are fast to call you at home when they are trying to sell you some of their products
  • You dont have to answer them, just say your concerned this is a scammer trying to find out detail with which to id fraud you and then put the phone down.

Never thought of that - I suppose he caught me on the hop as I was not expecting any phone calls as I am not in arrears with any debts. Will be ready if this ever happens again. Many thanks good advice

There's no point not answering the phone, as Yant1 suggests. They still need to get the answers to the questions they asked.

But if it's inconvenient to talk because you have no privacy, ask them to call you back on your home number or mobile at a pre-arranged time.

I did speak with Virgin when I got home - and told them if they wanted to review my account to ring me in my home number, what has made things worse is that the information they have got on me is totally wrong and when I told them that they wouldnt believe me I feel like transfering my balance and also closing my account with Virgin television, internet and phone!!

On the subject of people calling up trying to sell things, my voicemail has a nice little message advising all mortgage, loan or other financial product salespersons that we'll happily accept all donations without future re-imbursement. We also kindly let them know that by continuing with the call they are agreeing to this.

surprise surprise no-one has ever called the mobile number given at both the start and end of the message :D

Sorry I have no sympathy for you at all. You should have taken control and explained it was not convenient to talk and advised them to call you at home.

Easier said than done when you are sitting in a very small office, where everyone can hear what you are saying, quite embarrasing and uncomfortable when taken by supprise - never had a call like that before at first I thought he was trying to sell me something......but if it ever happens again I will take control of the call.

Well go away then. How uncaring? Lindawh you have my sympathies.

Btw what kind of check did Virgin carry out? Another credit check? Can they do this without your permission?
