Out of Contract change to Sim Only

My contract expired last year and i'm not bothered about upgrading to a new phone. I'm currently with vodaphone but to reduce my contract to sim only they want to tie me to them for another year. Is this the same for all providers? I'd prefer to have a month to month contract but they told me I couldn't do that.

Of course all want to tie you, preferably for longer than just a year.

I don't see 1-month plans at Voda, but nothing stops you from switching to PAYG or just voting with your feet as you are unlikely to find a good PAYG deal at Voda.

Most networks offer both one-month rolling and 12-month contracts. Usually the contract plans have higher allowances or are cheaper than the 1-month plans. But it appears on their website that Vodafone only offer 12-month contracts on SIM only.

Why not switch to Three or GiffGaff?

There are 30 day plans on the website. Just checked.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

    Where?
I still have the page opened in a tab and see 12 months only:
    http://www.vodafone.co.uk/shop/pay-monthly/sim-only-deals/index.htm

The drop-down menu is greyed in my browser. Is it playing up?

If one-month plans are available, then Voda are pulling a fast one by forcing the OP into a 12-months' contract.

Looks like it stays grey until you choose a phone above the drop down.

Rather sneaky, many won't think to add a phone model, so get stuck with a 12 month contract.

    Typical Vodafone behaviour, I suppose.

    Edit to add:

Though why anyone would pay their idiotic rates is another discussion.

500MB of data for £14 (12 months) or £16 (30 days) is just madness.

Try Tesco (O2 network), I am on 1gig download, 500 minutes and 5000 Texts £10 a month, oh and free 4G. 30 day plan.

  • If you want to avoid the hassle of unlocking, try mobile by Sainsbury's?

Monthly rates from £8 with no contract (no 4g though if that matters)

Vodafone do offer monthly SIMO options
    * I'm on one *
but ask for a PAC for better deals than the website
and ask for at least a 12 month contract on a month to month basis.
