So im applying for a mortgage for a small flat and i know i am the front with the applications so spent all day filling out forms. One of the requests was for an Experian credit check.
Signed up to the site, only to find out you have to input your credit card details, not only for ID....but they want to put you on a rolling 14.99 a month contract !, I hope it isn't difficult to cancel although I doubt the very much.
Anyway i had to do it, so i input all the details and my old address ( i have just sold my house, and am living with parents at the moment ).
I sit back and await the credit check but ohhhh noooooo they are going to send me a stupid PIN CODE which takes 5 !!!!!!! days !
Here i am trying to buy another flat and this stupid site says "wait five days"
Add that to the fact that they will only send it to my old ( SOLD ) address which has new people living in it, and to say my blood is not boiling is an understatement, ive had a mortgage for 15 years and have zero debt so I know its all OK.
I even rang them and they didnt give a rats backside and was unhelpful as hell.
Worst site ever and i wont be using it again as they have probably lost me the flat now.
Rant over,

Most people would advise you not to hand over your full credit report to anyone yourself.
If you are applying for a mortgage then the potential lender will search the credit reference agencies themselves, no need for you to order a copy and hand it to them.
In terms of ordering the report to your new address the best option is to just buy the postal version of the £2 statutory report.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Equifax and Callcredit give immediate online access to credit files once they have authenticated your identity with your credit card details and a few other checks.
It is about time Experian moved with the times. They cause a lot of unnecessary grief for people.0 -
In this instance you don't get the report yourself, its the other party who do the checks.0

Im going for shared ownership for a few years, and the housing people state they need an "experian" credit check.
It really has cheesed me off especially when i know i dont have any debts, never missed payments etc and the icing on the cake is that when you ring the other people on the phones just do not care.
Honestly this country is going down the toilet and the rudeness is just unreal.0 -
No in this instance is it me who has to get the report....crazy i know but hey what do you expect from this country in the state its in.
I'm pretty sure that a company can't legally ask you to give them your full credit report, when they're not a credit company. They should only be allowed to look at public data (electoral roll, bankruptcies etc). I'd not give your report to anyone, and I'd find somewhere else to live.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

Thames valley housing association who will be owning some of it.
I havent got the mortgage part yet! this is just to get the house "under offer"
Although after the hassle and the amount of forms ive had to fill out and now this credit check im debating whether to just go and rent for a few years0 -

Already did that my friend, Experian and royal mail don't do redirections for this kind of mail ( pin codes ) and hence my pin code will be sent to my old address regardless, i am of course receiving all other mail no problems.
I made sure i had everything in place when i sold my previous house, i changed all addresses on everything, bank passport etc, just this one thing has let me down.
The only thing the lady told me from experian is "well the only thing you can do is keep going back to your old address"......great help !
It really is a complete pain in the backside.
So i redirected all mail, and now Experian with their stupid rules will send my pin code to an address where i dont live.
Great way of preventing fraud......ive now taken this further and made a complaint against Experian ( nice accounts by the way Experian, you make a lot of money )
This is outrageous that a "company" if you can call them that, can charge people to view their own personal information and THEN they can dictate where and when they send these silly codes to.
Disgusted0 -
The PIN code is only sent via normal post so should be redirected as normal. All that glitters is not gold.0

Why have you had to go through this process?
I just signed up to Experian online, filled in a form and within 24 hours they sent me an email saying I could log in and view my file, was really simple?
Is that not how it's meant to work?0
