Aren't Bicycles Great.

Ha Ha well maybe; cars speeding, tailgating, motorists drink driving at night, and parking their cars on the pavement and pedestrian areas (also sometimes at night with no lights) are the biggest issues in my area. i would say speeding is done by the majority of motorists rather than the minority. For every cyclist I see waiting at a red light, I see at least two hundred car drivers speeding or parking their cars up onto the pavement as if they were a pedestrian. They kill thousands every year through their inconsiderate driving and pollution.
Why do these people not get out on a bike, get fit, and save quite a few lives in the process, possibly including their own.
Fixed that for you too...
This is a thread for cyclists who enjoy their bikes and their sport. If you want to whine like an old engine, start another thread and we'll show you the error of your thought processes there.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -

As a cyclist and non-driver I feel that I should, in part, defend you. Too many cyclists don't use lights at night (sometimes wearing dark clothes) and use the pavement (particularly couriers in central London). On the subject of red lights, However, I don't see it as the problem that you make out. Yes, some do go through red lights (as do many other vehicles) but in my experience the vast majority wait for green.0 -
Maybe the jumping red lights is an issue local to my area. I have almost been mown down more than once on a Pelican crossing by cyclists with the lights at red but as a driver I also see them skipping over junctions with a red traffic light set which is quite dangerous for all concerned.0

As said previously, please use another thread, or start one of your own. There are many threads on this forum that deal specifically with these very tired topics. They've been done to death over and over again. This thread is a positive thread about cyclists' rides and their activities. Please don't spoil it in the way that happens with so many other threads.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
OK, but it's always good to hear everyone's viewpoint; maybe not on this thread though.0

Yawn...

Fair enough. I haven't seen any other threads (I'm new to this part of the forum) and don't have any desire to create one. I was merely putting another side to the argument.
Back to the subject of bikes being great... I'm unemployed (hopefully temporarily) at the moment and my bike is helping to remind me that life isn't all that bad. I live in the suburbs but can be in country lanes within 15 minutes and it's so good to take in the sights at my own (fairly slow) pace during the week. It feels almost as though I'm skiving which sort of adds to the enjoyment.0 -

Since then it's been sitting in the shed mostly. Took it out recently and noticed the brakes were terrible. Lots of noise and no bite.
Removed the pads and was faced with this.
These are resin pads and only had around 40 or so miles on them
Not sure if the pads got contaminated with something or have just failed because of my weight and how hard i was pushing them in the wet when last properly used.
I think it's simply a case of the pads being left unused for a while, I had exactly the same with my 29er which has been unused and unloved since I got the fat bike and sanding those pads down sorted it out.

I'm going to get the fair-weather bike out soon! The weather has been good enough for a while, but I've been riding the winter bike out of habit and being too lazy to do some minor jobs on the other one. I get used to riding the heavier bike but it'll feel so good to feel light and spright again.0

One or two cuckoos have made an appearance, so it must be Spring.0
