Renaming "Gambling Introductory Offer Loopholes" and making it non-googleable

huh?
hmmm some of you gambling lot are not only greedy for some quick money but also selfish - you don't want anyone to google and anyone else find tips ehPerhaps you forgot how you wandered into MSE and how you benefited from this very same board you now do not wish that it be open to others anymore - well my thoughts on this the more exposure MSE has to outsiders the more people would join and the more for you all to share and improvise on your ehem gambling skills.
Shades of the Tesco mis-price thread?:D
I'm not trolling before anyone accuses - to me it seems like this greed is making everyone be unbelievably obsessed
How can you be a troll with that number of posts?
I'm in a moodto explore the three roots of evil as I'm utterly fascinated with the Buddha - greed in wants that are never ending - ill-will in envying others benefiting - delusion in protectionism and serving self-interests.
finallynow for a piece of advice from humble me - if you want to be rich be an investor and not a speculator :cheesy:
hope that helped
I think the obsessions are a feature of MSE - I've seen such displays in the Bank charges reclaims board - some people there are positively evangelical, woe betide anyone sharing a contrary opinion:o .Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -

Ah, but you have to speculate to accumulate
Seriously though, the matched betting forum is not about gambling, rather it could be considered a special form of stoozing. And the reason they don't want to show up in google is that the bookies want real gamblers (ie people who lose their money) and will try and track down users on here.Context is all.

Haha, meher, it's not about keeping other users away from OUR offers
and iwassomeoneelse I wasn't arguing - only trying to say If it in't brok, dun't fix it - well I said it in my grand philosophical style.Ah, but you have to speculate to accumulateit's a fallacy
you have to calculate to accumulate0 -
Thank You Red - that revelation is surely enlightening

I suppose there's the protestation that it's slightly damaged:p

Yes but some is more calculating than others:DGwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -
I came across this board (and site) whilst googling for cheap glasses. Then after coming back a few times to see what was here I noticed the 'gambling introductory offers' thread. So I would still have started MB-ing if that section of the board didn't show up on google. ( I don't know that it should be closed off if you haven't signed into the forum though.) I don't want others not to find it but just think they still will if they have an interest in money saving by coming here through other means. The OP has highlighted what the problems are with bookies being so easily able to see what is going on; indivuals having lost money through account closure (I finally realised it wasn't a good idea to use my bookie signup ID on MSE!)
and the worry is that there will be less and less matched betting available and may be losses for everyone including the people not here yet.
The only benefit I can see for keeping it so easily seen on google that people searching for bookies sites with the intention of actual gambling may come here and make money instead. But I think the problems listed outweigh this.0 -

Don't worry - I haven't lost any (yet) but that is why I changed my name.and iwassomeoneelse I wasn't arguing
Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that you were, but many others have had long arguments about this subject in the past so it was directed at other readers, not you nor RedXIII. No-one ever backs down and all it would do is divert attention from the purpose of the thread.0 -
Even if Google were magically to forget all of its currently stored information, there are still plenty of sites with similar information whose owners are angling for affiliate referral cash. Personally I'd rather people found it here where no-one is trying to make money from them directly.
There's no evidence at all that having this information posted here leads to reduced offers. If anything there are better offers around now (Goodwood week) than this time last year. Bookies are not idiots and they know their offers get abused. Ultimately while marketing departments have separate budgets from the trading room these offers will continue.
I don't honestly see any reason why the board should be hidden. Renaming it might be useful possibly, but only to avoid the odd argument. And actually I agree with Meher, there's a point at which people become obsessive and overprotective about their "secret" knowledge, in the process forgetting that in most cases they didn't work it out for themselves.
This is like most loopholes. Eventually it becomes too costly to sustain for the organisations paying for it. There's no indication we're at that point yet.0 -
there's a point at which people become obsessive and overprotective about their "secret" knowledge,
I'm certainly not at that point being a two/three week newbie to the whole thing. I wouldn't have had a clue about it if it wasn't for this board and wouldn't have dared get started without the generous help available here. However people's worries about google seemed legitimate to me - eg accounts being closed and the moderators of the section of the board want us to be careful and disable links to bookies etc - in fact a reminder thread about that is what prompted this one.
Maybe the other issues about google you mention in your post make it irrelevant anyway and I must admit I don't have any knowledge about those things.
But as I've said in my earlier post I discovered the gambling loop hole section by coming to this forum for other money saving reasons. I was never going to be googling for bookies because I had (have) no intention of gambling. I take your point that people might have heard of matched betting anyway (unlike me) and be googling for that. I confess that hadn't crossed my mind. I most definitely don't want to keep this thing 'secret' though.
edit: maybe "matched betting" on google could link to a closed thread here that directed people to the relevant section? then the bookies being named issue would'nt arise.0
