Utility warehouse iphone 5 unlocked ?

Daughter needs another phone and a friend at work has offered her his old iPhone 5. She is presently on giffgaff and friend tells her his iphone was on utility warehouse which uses EE network.

Anyone know if UW phones are locked to EE ?

    They originally used T-Mobile, so probably locked to that network. He'll need to request an unlock, which may be chargeable.
