Fraudulent Van Hire Company

Options
Dear all,

I do not now if this is the right place to post this information but I hope it helps someone out there.

A few days ago I hired, on-line, a van to assist with a move this weekend. It was from a company called Self Drive Vehicle Hire and was fro just over £100.
This morning I received a cancellation via e-mail saying they had no vehicles left. I found this very worrying so I tried to contact them but without any success.
I then contacted my bank to ensure no payments were made to this company, only to find there is a payment pending to them for over £300!!!
Do not use this company as this is obviously some form of scam
Many thanks.

    Deposits
We charge deposits immediately after we receive your on line reservation along with your rental charge in all cases.

Caddy size to a long wheel transit will levy a £200 deposit & 4 Meter Sprinter, Luton and 9/12/15 and 17 seater will levy a deposit off £400.

they do seem to be a relatively new company as they just set up in Oct. 2013, so maybe they dont have all the vehicles themselves as looking on google maps their address is just an office and no area to store vehicle
  • Many thanks for your input guys. You are entirely correct about the deposit but it doesn't make sense they are trying to take the monies when they are not supplying the vehicle.

    Any thoughts?

Probably an authorisation, if not the terms you agreed to might have said full payment prior to rental and a refund will be following in a few days as they can't now provide the van.

    Any thoughts?

a lot of hire companies use companies like Practical Hire, so they are just a middleman.

They may have a few vans of their own and keep a few PH vehicles. mind their site does not look professionally made
