EE broadband upgrade

I've been with EE on fibre broadband for over a year now. I pay £29.75 a month for landline + broadband.
I noticed that if you sign up for 78mb right now, with the same package I have it costs £30.40 or something amongst those lines a month.
So I called EE sales team and they told me that upgrading to 78mb would cost me £40 a month... Is that even legal? Does it have to state somewhere that those prices are for new customers only? I understand lowering prices to attract new clientele but screwing long term paying customers?

It is legal and it will state some place for new customers only .Just like all the other similar new customer offers for many services .0

Well, that's just balls... So annoying these companies get away with stuff like that..
But on the other hand though, my contract is almost running out, like in 2 months or so. If by that time the price is still that good online, then would it be viable for me to walk away, go online and get a new contract from scratch for the upgraded version?0 -
No that wont work as you need a gap before qualify as new .
But you can walk away at the end of your contract and chose another supplier providing you cancel the contract .
But please as you feel its so wrong stick by your guns and don't take out a contract with another supplier that's giving you a discount as a new customer .0 -
Sadly, full price is for people who can't be bothered.
I have just finished a year with PlusNet, and will be with EE from tomorrow. £100 Cashback, discounted broadband, plus Line Rental. Can't keep the old telephone number, because they are useless. So, you can save money if you are willing to go through the hassle of switching.
You should at least try to get a discount.
You can ask for a MAC code, which you do not have to use. It is valid for a month. Customer retention should hopefully ring you up with an offer.0 -
My EE cashback came through this week, after a few months and some prodding.
The EE BB service itself isn't very good though; even loading a straight web page takes some time.0 -
Thanks for the prompt replies guys.
I could potentially haggle but I'm not sure how effective that would be. I did have LOADS of issues in the beginning when I signed up for them, they sent the router to my neighbor and then started charging me, even though the mistake was fully on them, then they supposedly cancelled that account and re-sent a new router correctly to my flat, then took a cancellation fee off of my account, then started overcharging and I was actually paying 2 accounts at once. A big big mess that lasted for 3 months before everything was in working order.
I only got 3 months free off of that whole shenanigan.
Maybe I could play that card but I'm not even sure they have all of that in their system as their customer support seems pretty incompetent.0
