What's the betting that the banks will have somehow "lost" all the reclaim letters send over the last year which they put on hold while this case was being held.poppy100

This is an absolute disater for all people who stay within the terms of their account. why should those of us who do not reack up charges for mismanagement of our accounts pay for those that do.
expect higher overdraft charges, cash point charges, charges for paying by dd and standing order - totally mad decision0 -
Simplified, he states that if the bank makes a consideration to pay a request but does not do so, it is not a service. However, he also states that if the payment is made, then it could be considered a service.
I'm ok then, Natwest always refuse to pay my D/D's even when there is money clearing into my account and then charge £38 for the priviledge! The D/D requesting company then sting me too!£2012 in 2012 Challenge #232 : £561.29/£20120 -

Get yourself a draw divan and keep your dosh in there. Sorry bad idea you wouldn't be able to sleep knowing you'd be losing the interest on the stuff you were kipping on.0 -
hoorah! glad to hear the news, hope this first step is heading towards clearer fairer charges, i would rather pay an anual fee for my banking and know what was coming rather than have the shock of charges i had not budgeted for.
Thanks to Martin and the MSE team for all the help they have given everyone in reclaiming and pursuing this case.0 -
Chipbeck - assume you cant manage you account which is why you are so happy.
I just want to enjoy free banking as a normal person who respects the facts banks make money and provide a decent service.0 -
Chasancrai - Some people get charged by no fault of their own. If their wages don't go in on time, or a direct debit comes out unexpectedly. They charged for this and for every other direct debit which isnt paid as a result. This often results in over £100 worth of charges to be taken the following month. Most familes can not afford to loose £100 in a month. This then causes them to struggle financially and may cause them to go overdrawn, thus resulting in more charges and so the snowballing effect continues - as it is designed to do.
Free banking is robbing the poorest to keep banking free for the more well off. If you think that is a fair I dread to think what kind of life you lead.
You can not tell a bank not to allow payment if they take you overdrawn. You can not tell a bank you don't want their money. They pay it regardless - and charge for the service, from as little as 60p overdrawn you can incure £50 worth of penalities.
Why shouldnt everyone pay a little rather than a few people, those who can least afford it paying for everyone? You would not expect that in a supermarket, so why expect it from a bank?
Time for a reality check Chasancrai and Time to Stop being a free loader!!!0 -
Chasancrai - and how do you suppose they make money?
Do you think the millions of bank workers work from the goodness of their heart so you can "enjoy a free banking service"?... Erm, no I think not.
You are enjoying a free service because other people are paying. It is an unfair way of paying for banking. How would you like it if you had to pay 1000% road tax if you had an old knackered car, whilst people with nice fancy mercs where tax excempt? Oh - don't bother, that probaly sounds like a nice idea for you.
Luckily, most of society have better morals.0 -

Thing is chasancrai - I (and probably the majority of those on this forum) don't object to paying a FAIR charge for my misdemeanours. I do strongly object to paying a disproportionately high charge when no one has EVER been able to prove just how much it costs banks to actually deal with returned items etc.
I think it's wrong for the banks to profit (in a massive way) from those of us who can least afford it. By all means cover their costs, but don't see us as a bonus scheme.0
