what is the tax month number on your December payslip
    and on your P45
    and on your January payslip

I've discovered what's wrong. The person that processed my P45 at my previous employer put the wrong month down. That I had been paid my last wages from them in January, where it was actually December; So the tax code/system or whatever thinks I have been paid twice this month so I have been taxed without the tax free allowance. So should get this resolved easily :-).

Thanks a lot for everyone's input. This is the first time I have moved companies so I'm a little out of touch with these things.

    Regards,
    Pinchy

It does not work like that, in fact your new employer will not have taken any notice of the month number other than to use it to check the tax figure on the P45. The figures that they use are the tax code/basis, the taxable gross and the tax paid if it is correct. This strongly suggests that your last employer did actually tax you in the same tax month as your new employer.
If you want this to be accurately checked give the full details from the P45 ie taxable gross and tax paid and check that they agree with your last payslip from them. Advise the date of payment of your last wage from them and first wage from new employer. From first payslip with new employer advise taxable gross to date and tax paid to date and if showing previous pay and tax figures.

It should hopefully resolve itself in the next payroll run.

This depends what you mean by resolve itself. If these two payments were made in the same tax month then assuming no errors were made there will be no adjustment to the tax paid this month. Tax next month will go back to what the OP is used to but that is all.
To confirm the position and ensure that there are no errors the full details requested are needed.

Well it couldn't be correct because my final payment from my previous employer was on 29th December 2014. So something has gone wrong here as I obviously haven't been paid twice in January?

What date were you paid before 29 December?

Could you have already had a pay in adaecember so your employer used the next monthi.e. January?

If you give the figures I have asked for I can see what is happening. You can PM them to me if you do not want them to be seen on here.

Thanks for that offer I may well take you up on it if showing them my December pay slip doesn't resolve it.

Would anyone here please be able to help me out with another question? I'm not sure if I've posted it in the correct place:

The title is: In full time employment & working self employed? and in the "The Employment, Jobseeking & Training Board"

It's to do with taking on extra work while in full time employment.

    Thanks :).
