are you saying that online banking is not allowed for club & society accounts?
That's as understand it - I'm treasurer for two different societies which use two different banks.
It's logical really as with online banking the person logging on can do anything, pay things, change settings etc. This of course is totally incompatible with a multi-signature authorization concept of a club/society account where typically two signatures are required for all transactions. - ie on cheques.
This is both a safeguard to the society and indeed it protects the person against any possibility of any "allegations".
There will in all probability also be the complication that there are several authorized signatures registered with the bank as able to sign.
I think the only exception is that I am allowed to transfer money on my own via the telephone between two different accounts within the bank for one society. though I have to wade through a heap of security questions to do it. - easier to send a letter frankly!
Never ever have the society/me as treasurer been asked/encouraged etc to swap to online banking - which is a sure sign its not offered!0 -
This might be particular to your bank(s) - online banking for charities is definitely available, complete with dual authorisation, e.g. from CAF Bank.

This article from May 2013 suggests that there are others:The Payments Council has come to an agreement with all banks and building societies in the UK that they will provide 'dual authorisation' of transactions online or by telephone before the end of the year.

See also http://www.paymentscouncil.org.uk/what_we_do/electronic_multiple_authorisation/-/page/2513/As of 20 December 2013:
* The Payments Council members who currently offer multiple or dual authorisation cheque facilities and who made the commitment to deliver greater choice for their customers from the new year are: Barclays Bank plc, Clydesdale Bank PLC, Danske Bank, HSBC Bank plc, Lloyds Bank plc, The Royal Bank of Scotland plc (including NatWest), and Santander UK plc. Other banks and building societies may also offer these services.0 -
it's just down to personal preference..
i always like paper statements as a record for both Current and Credit accounts, and always ask for them to be dated 1st of the month.
i have never known weekly statements, and wouldn't want them, but i guess if someone is doing lots of transactions and thinks a month is a long time to keep on top of things, and the bank provide the option, great:T0
