I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

Doesn't that version come with 36 zeros and one number on which you only lose half?

That is not quite correct. On European roulette you double your stake on 18/37 outcomes, lose it on 18/37 outcomes, and lose half your stake 1/37 times when zero comes up.

I stand corrected, and my wish to own a casino is diminished accordingly :D

ha ha - i think you've been a bit unlucky, but really, you've picked a poor choice for a first foray! - a nigerian company - as noted, they are FTSE250 but corporate governance is a different kettle of fish and companies like that can simply disappear overnight. There is a place for speculative stocks, but it is as a small % of a wider portfolio - not a first effort!

try not to let it put you off - funds are all very well, but if you have the inclination to look at individual stocks, then learn what research to do, do it and have another go. In order to win the game, you have to take part!

A Nigerian oil company in the midst of a oil price crisis is a poor choice!
  • Or a brilliant choice. That's the rub I guess?

Actually, I'll change my statement from poor choice to extremely risky
  • I just stumbled across this while reading the papers with a Muller corner and a cup of tea.

So they were trading at >150p, fell to just over 4p and have most recently traded at 5.3p. Very interesting use of the word 'recovery'!
