Well your in-law is breaking the terms of their subscription so if Sky click in what's happening they will terminate your in-law's service.

But it is true that it can be difficult for them to discover this is going on.

How are they? Do you have a link to these terms?

You are able to create extra SkyIDs for family members and have a ltd no. of hardware able to register to the SkyGo account. he has given one of these the OP.

Seems perfectly OK and in line with the service.

The Accessibility Terms and Conditions which govern the creation of Sky IDs state in section 10 that "You must be a Sky digital subscriber in order to register as the primary user but can nominate guest users provided they are part of the same household and they consent."

These are the terms and conditions that you are asked to agree to when adding additional users. I would take that to mean that non-resident family members would not be included and both the Accessibility terms and Sky Go terms do forbid sharing Sky ID information with others.

I will concede that there is no real clarification as to what Sky are referring to here, especially since the way they term "guest" on their help pages and in their terms seems to differ. A "guest" in the help pages is a non-subscribing Sky ID holder not attached to a household account, so "guest" in the terms would lead me to believe they're referring to Additional Users, especially since those are the terms they provide you with when adding them and section 10 refers to My Sky which is for household accounts.

I would also concede that the Sky Go terms which state that use of the service which could be considered "improper" is rather vague. I note these terms were updated in December, and some of what I recall reading there has been changed or edited.

I know this does not make it right, but I know lots of people that have been doing this for a long period of time with no issues from sky. I have never heard of someone being 'told off' or otherwise from sky for giving a skygo sub to a non family member.

So to the OP I would say, don't worry too much about it, I do not think sky are really that bothered at this time.
