They were great at the meeting, mum was adamant she would not go into a care home! But the social worker, ward sister etc were great and put forward some great ideas and support.. The result is that mum would be discharged from hospital to a temporary 'drop down' bed in a residential home ( once they have e.mailed the names of the available ones and I have visited)
In the meantime they will sort out sheltered/warden controlled type with care package, this could take a while but if she likes the temporary place she will have the option of staying there instead.
No talk of funding yet tho! I take it that will come in a few weeks?

I believe that 'drop down' beds are funded by the NHS as part of a rehabilitation programme by the hospital.

You need to check this and for how long the funding lasts.

If this is the case then some rehabilitation should happen at the care home in the form of physio treatment etc.

Unfortunately sometimes these things do not run smoothly so make sure when your mum moves to the care home she receives the follow up treatment that she needs.

Above all, make sure that you ask the hospital and social worker exactly what is going to happen and the time line.

Attending one of these meetings can be fraught and afterwards you realise that you didn't take it all in!
  • thanks for your answers,
its a flippin minefield out there, I have been looking around a few ( on the list) care homes...
I have found one that we like and have put mums name down, she is still in the 'I'm no bother/I don't need help' phrase of mind!
anyway, we are waiting for a financial assessment form ( that should be fun, not!)
    I will keep you posted
