Bosch S5 car battery starting to die - warranty claim?
Comments
-
I bought a bosch S5 battery 3 years ago - it failed.
I sent it back to Sutton Auto Factors (SAF or buypartsby.com as they are also called)
They tested it & agreed it was faulty.
They refused to replace it, saying that the Bosch battery only has a one year guarantee from Bosch & then a 4 year warranty from them (SAF).
They say the SAF warranty only entitles the purchaser to a refund to the value of what's left on their warranty (2 years in this case), not a replacement.
So the 5 year warranty is almost useless imo.
IMO if an item fails inside it's warranty then it should be replaced for another one that does work.
I spoke to Bosch UK & they weren't much use either.
So avoid Bosch & avoid Sutton Auto Factors if you want a warranty that is real.
I've since heard lots of bad things about Bosch batteries & seen poor reviews of Sutton Auto Factors ( or buypartsby.com as they are known online /ebay)0 -
I think all battery warranties work like that. 4 year warranty, fails after 2 so you get 50%0
-
They don't....., because Euro Car Parts do honour their warranties - If the battery is faulty at any time in the 5 year warranty period (for the 5 year warranty batteries including the Bosch S5) then they replace it with a new one.
My local auto factors does this too.
Which is why I got my new battery locally through a descent supplier this time.0 -
I am with xbow
Buy from EuroCarParts.
Order online for local collection and you often get a better price than just going to the shop and buying.
Never had an issue with an battery bought from Euro.
Had issues with 3 batteries one after the other at Halfords which was a pain though they did exchange without question each time0 -

i wonder if they conned you. i wonder if youre entitled to a full refund but told you the can only give 50% and claimed for the full refund off bosch.0 -
Interesting thread as I also have problems with a Bosch S5 battery.
Euro CP exchanged this for me without problem but the new battery has again failed within 5 months.
Just bought another battery charger [smart charger] and the second battery will not take a charge. 12.3V which isn't enough to spin the engine.
Hopefully Euro CP will swap this out again but for a different make of battery.0 -

How are you charging it? A lot of people try to charge via the lighter socket, which is usually disconnected when the ignition is off.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

The smart charger will also test the alternator but of course I have to get the engine started first.
When the previous battery failed I called out an auto mechanic who quickly diagnosed the battery had a high internal impedence.0
