What size of house is big enough to accommodate 2 adults and 3 kids? I know this is a very subjective question so don't have a go at me!!! Just wondering what people think. If u are a family of 5 how big is your house and do you think it's big enough?

Age and gender play a big role along with how large the rooms are and if there's any "extra space " like dining rooms, conservatories and playrooms. Personally I think you need 1 per bed (as in couples sharing) plus room to grow up and/or out if need arises.
I look at ours compared with our "starter" and it's palatial but compared with family in the states it's a pokey little hole!xxx

We have 3 boys, age 6, 4 and 3 months. We are looking at a 4 bed semi which is 1600 sq ft. Since my kids are still so young I can see us living there now but I'm wondering if 6/7 years from now would I be feeling abit claustrophobic!0

Why have you asked the same question twice on different parts of the forum ?Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

My aunt and uncle are a family of 6 (4 girls) and used to live in a 2 bedroom flat before upsizing to a 4 bedroom house. The 2 youngest shared but that room was huge.0

Depends what you can afford and what you're used to.
My aunt bought up 5 children in a small 3 bedroom house with one bathroom, the sitting room and kitchen as the only communal space. Kids had to have bunk beds as they couldn't fit in otherwise and no room for wardrobes etc in the kids rooms.
Me, I fill up a much larger 3 bedroom house on my own and still run out of room.
Obviously her and her kids would have loved more space, but they managed. People do if they have to. I think they'd have killed for an extra loo though, if nothing else. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
A 4 bed would be good if you have 3 kids, and in an ideal world, every child would have a room each. Of course in reality, most councils will now expect a couple to live in 2 bed flat if all 3 children are boys. The couple in one bedroom and the 3 boys in one.
It really is subjective, but if I had a choice, I would have a bedroom for the couple, and one each for each child.Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

Agree that it depends on your budget and your own expectations. DH is one of six kids with ten years separating him (youngest) from his eldest sibling. His parents brought them up in a three bed semi of around 900 sq ft with the three girls sharing the largest bedroom, the three boys in the middle room whilst his parents had the smallest
Otoh, DS and I only have the one DS and before he went off to uni and we downsized the three of us lived in a 3500 sq ft six bedroom house. Although we sold up because we felt the house was too big for just us two, it was more that we didn't need six bedrooms......as we have shed loads of furniture and didn't want to part with the majority of it we downsized to a 2500 sq ft four bedroom house.....which as an aside had four loos - like a previous poster said, I'm sure DH's family would have killed for that luxury!
Some friends of ours have four kids - 18, 16, 13 and 11. They have a three bedroom house of around 1000 sq ft. The boys (18 and 13) share one room and the girls (16 and 11) another.
Generally speaking our mindsets and expectations are somewhat different today with people expecting to have a bedroom for each kid - my maternal grandma was one of twelve kids, brought up in a tiny two bed terrace. Didn't do them any harmMortgage-free for fourteen years!

One bed is fine, until they are two the kiddies can sleep in the chest-of-drawers.0
