Broadband Switch - Unexpected charges!

I've just switched from BT £36 a month to EE £15.75 a month.
I did this to save money.
The whole switch was easy enough, i basically didn't have to do anything. I am now with EE.
However, BT have just emailed me stating i need to pay:
£161 - Charges for ending your contract early
£30 - Charge for stopping your broadband
£55 - Charge for your equipment - followed by another email asking me to post the equipment back!!! So i have to pay for equipment that they want me to send back so they can 're-use' as they state in their email!!!
Thats a total of £246 which i don't have, and at no point was warned i'd get this charge.
How do i get out of this? Can i even cancel EE or am i now stuck in two contracts?
I could cry, I cant afford this!!!!!!!
Switching shouldn't be this easy if you are going to get stung with charges : (
PLEASE HELP!!!

Who did you initiate this process of switching with?0

Was it both your landline and broadband you switched over at the same time?
If so, did you use a MAC code?
Did you know you were still in contract with BT? If not, when did you sign up with them? All your base are belong to us.0 -
However, BT have just emailed me stating i need to pay:
£161 - Charges for ending your contract early
( how long was their left on your contract ???)
£30 - Charge for stopping your broadband
(Normal if you fail to use a MAC code to switch )
£55 - Charge for your equipment
( Charge is normal if contract is broken )
As posted all this reads as if you have broken a valid contract and now BT want you to honour the contract .

Well I thought it was a 12 month contract which ends in Feb 2015...turns out its an 18 month one. However, I did call BT two weeks ago to ask if i needed to let them know I was switching to EE, I was told no....and I definitely was not told that id be charged! Im hoping they record all calls because surely I should have been advised of this?
£30 - Charge for stopping your broadband

I specifically asked EE if they needed a MAC code because i needed one for my previous switch years ago, and they said no!!! So i didn't know I would be charged without one : (
£55 - Charge for your equipment
( Charge is normal if contract is broken )
but why expect £55 AND me to send the kit back. Thats not on.0 -

Obviously they shouldn't charge for equipment and ask you to return the equipment as well, I would imagine that if the equipment was returned they would credit you the amount, or don't return the equipment, unfortunately the other charges are hard to avoid, you may get EE to refund the broadband cease charge if they didn't use an acceptable transfer process, but BT don't have to say what leaving them would cost, it may even be outlawed by OFCOM as being anti competitive by frightening people from moving by quoting what it will cost to leave, it's upto the switcher to take everything into consideration when judging if it's a good idea to move company's...0 -
I am pretty sure I read somewhere that EE will pay out upto £100 if u still in contract with previous provider. Must be on ee website regarding this. Check it it - at least £100 less to pay.0
