Praise for Maplins

It's not often that I can offer unrestrained praise for a company, but I'm glad to say that an opportunity has arisen!
The scenario: son no2, who has Asperger's syndrome and does tend to dislike change and gets upset if things go wrong, has had a Sony MP3 player for several years. He uses a lot of the time and finds it very useful and perhaps comforting. He also has a tendency to leave it in his pockets. Unfortunately his mum washed his dressing gown a couple of weeks ago without thoroughly excavating it. I suspect the reader can tell that this resulted in a clean but no longer functioning MP3 player to the consternation of all.
We managed to dry it out and get it working again after a fashion but it was a bit tetchy and didn't always do what it was supposed to. Unfortunate. Doubly unfortunate was that this particular model had been superseded by a model which operated a bit differently and attracted quite a few negative reviews. Ebay didn't have any at a reasonable price; however Maplins did have a few left over. Trebly unfortunate, none of the shops which had them were within striking distance of where we live, and these left-overs were not included in the home delivery service.
However, nothing ventured nothing gained, so Mum (desperately trying to regain credibility) phoned Maplins, who were incredibly helpful. They phoned back - on a Sunday morning no less! - with the promise to get one of the stores to package it up and send it to us (at no extra cost). They duly kept their promise and a shiny new MP3 player is now happily in residence chez ElefantEd and domestic harmony is restored.
Thank you Maplins, you repaired this potentially troublesome situation quickly and with compassion, and went out of your way with exemplary customer service!

Thanks for posting. Great to hear of a company going the extra mile.
A couple of years ago, I made a resolution to publicly praise the company who most impressed me that week. I found lots of great examples - of good personal service, good web design, good aftersales.
What I hadn't expected, was that it made me feel better to be 'looking on the bright side of life'.0 -
It's Maplin BTW.0

+1
I had a good experience with maplin last year when i needed a new portable power pack, checked online and they had 1 for £20 and it showed they had 1 in the local store (20 miles away), so i ordered it on click and collect to pay instore (which would be ready in 1 hr). i got emails and text to say it was ready to collect, so travelled to store only to be told they don't have it and don't have that model, showed then the confirmation it was ready to collect, the sales assistant showed it to his manager who conformed it was the right s tore the order was reserved at, but no idea why the system stated that as they had not had that model instore for over 2 months, but he said no problem as its was clearly Maplins fault i could have the next model for the same price, so i was give a £49.99 model for the £20.0 -

You're quite right, it is.
I suppose I've used a phrase along the lines of "Let's buy it at Maplin's", as in, Maplin's shop. And eventually over the years this has added an s to the name in my mind!0 -
That's great to hear. Glad your lad has a new one to use now0

It's good to hear. I've always found Maplin to be very good, and the staff very helpful.
I do get the urge to shout out Ho-Di-Ho every time I hear the name, though.0
