  • I doubt it as you don't make a joint claim with a tenant. You may have to declare the income from a tenant for certain benefits I don't know but they certainly can't ask you to make a joint claim with a tenant. I think they are sending these letters to anyone who shows up at your address, be they parents or tenants or ex-husbands.

    In theory no. You don't make a joint claim with a tenant. In practice it might because they may not believe he is a tenant.

    They would be looking for evidence of things like:

    * regular payments of rent
    * a tenancy agreement
    * evidence of how bills are split
