There was a similar thread discussing this problem- but I can't find it now.
I'm spending the weekend listing on sites other than ebay , trying out a few places and seeing how things go. I've got a long establised Gumtree account so have listed half a dozen things on there- all routine household things, a vase, some bulk glass ware and other items. None of my items were showing today so I checked my account and they all say 'Your ad has been removed from the site because it breaks posting rules. We've emailed you to explain why.'
Firstly, these are all just my own things, testing the water- they are straightforward this is what it is, my postcode is correct as is my email for contact. There is nothing dodgy or odd about any of it and looking at the rules I can't see what on earth I could have breached.
I've also got no emails at all and I've checked my spam folder.
It looks like it is back to ebay for me after all

Gumtree security is pretty slack too, so log out and use another email address and nearby postcode - problem solved?"Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Nope. Just this sort of thing
2 glass bowls- one 10 inch diameter pressed glass approx 1940s, the other slightly later moulded glass from the 1970s marked ravescroft. then description of condition - blah blah blah , then my general location.
I'm just looking at Friday-Ad at the moment, I am determined to find at least one other place to sell a few bits and bobsI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. At least they let you list stuff- I'm obviously on the naughty step.
I'm also on the naughty step for yet another facebook selling page..I listed something for £20 collection only and had an offer for £10 and a second offer for £15 if I could drop off at 9am on Wednesday. Before I could even respond I got a third reply saying yes I'm happy to pay £20 and can collect today. So I accepted the third offer.
Apparently that is in breach of the rules as I need to give 24 hours to each person that responds in turn- so even though the first two made offers it still counts. I refused to accept the telling off as I don't see that an offer is a definite purchase, but because I am arguing with the admin I am being warned I may be removed from the site. They want me to go back to the original person and negotiate a price from their offer of £10 to my £20. I've stopped responding at the moment to see if the person who is due later today turns up with the £20 I actually wanted.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. soolin you may not have the time (or desire) but have you thought about setting up your own fb selling site? I've found they soon catch on in terms of members.
fb groups are alot of work though so quite understand if the answer is no!0 -

I've already got a FB selling page- I sell about one thing every 2 months so not really a goer. Some of the pages I advertise on have 13,000 + members as well.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Have you tried Preloved or is that just a waste of time?
I got money back a while ago (2013 I think) for listing items via Topcashback with viva street.co.uk. I just checked to see if they are still on TCB but they're not. I've googled it and they still seem to be up and running. I don't know how well they're doing (or not as the case might be). Always another avenue. EBay is so big that I think most companies have trouble competing. I couldn't even remember the name of Viva Street and had to look up my transactions on TCB to remind myself of the name.
I think a lot more advertising needs to be done by these companies which can be too expensive for small companies but could also help to build them up or by lots of us passing the names around via social media and forums. Competition is always good as well as choice.
Anyway good luck, soolin and I hope you get good results."For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."0 -
I have an account with preloved already, haven't listed for a while though as I got sent some rather unpleasant spam !!!!!! emails from potential 'buyers' .
My problem is that my stuff sells fairly easily on eBay, yet I think I am foolish in not having other outlets in case it all goes pear shaped. I just need to find that 'other ' site.
Ive just sent out an ad on my Facebook selling page and have had someone contact me about some china, unfortunately they are up North and I'm not..and it is unrealistic to post the amount they enquired about, shame really as it would have cleared a lot of room in storage.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. That's absolutely dreadful that the Preloved site does not automatically vet emails for spam or !!!!!! or whatever as I would imagine Gumtree do. Maybe they don't but I think all replies go via Gumtree so I would think that would prevent that sort of thing happening although I may be wrong.
Pity about the distance for the china. Is it too expensive for a courier? Might be worth weighing it and sending the person enquiring the amount it would cost as maybe they would be willing to pay it depending on the price of goods plus transit. They might still be getting a good deal.
I sold 3 items on Facebook just before Christmas 2013 when I first noticed the selling pages but since then I haven't listed anything as I found it too personal that everyone you knew could see what you were doing lol. I live in a reasonably small town and prefer to be a bit more private. I think FB selling changed a while back though as I don't see any items for sale coming through. Do people have to go onto the actual selling pages now if they are looking for items rather than everything coming through everyone's feed when they are signed up for these pages? It did get a bit messy for a while with so much stuff for sale appearing and friend's comments disappeared too quickly.
I was trying to make up a list of places to buy and sell and these are the ones I can think on but maybe other people could add any more they think on. Maybe there is a thread somewhere else on MSE with a list like that - does anyone know?
EBay
Gumtree
Amazon
Preloved
EBid
Viva Street
Friday-ad (I had not heard of this one before today)"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."0
