Well if you have not decided after all this time then neither of the two are right.

You need to find something else, or be prepared for your buyer to pull out and put your house back on when you find one thing you do like.

You are probably right, it has to be "the one" and they really aren't

Have you looked in Polegate? Normally plenty of bungalows there and just down the road. Personally I would choose the Anglesey house over the newbuild as this area holds its prices well.

    Hoploz got it right.

If I ever found myself asking a group of complete strangers on an Internet forum to judge two houses for me, I'd know deep down that neither was right.

That's not saying your post is a waste of time, because hearing others' opinions is always valuable.

Thanks, we will look at Polegate, do you know this area?
Are there parts to avoid? We want to be nearer the coast, so this area looks good value. Our main reason for moving is getting out of London and having some cash in the bank.

I know a little of this area. Polegate is a good option for bungalow buying as it has so many and the prices are more reasonable. The town has a high population of elderly. It has a railway station and some local shops with a co op but is quiet and not exactly buzzing. However, it is just down the road from Eastbourne and other surrounding coastal towns.

Oh my, you are completely correct, if they were right for us we would have known, how ridiculous of me.

No, it's never ridiculous to gather others' opinions, and not just on specific houses, but areas too, as this thread shows. Someone may throw some local knowledge into the mix, or give an angle on the properties which has not been previously considered.

Even when someone is buying a 'forever' house on retirement, it makes sense to keep one eye on future saleability. None of us wants a move like that to go wrong, but sometimes it does. Retiring and moving 'away' is risky.
