There is no way I would risk my dogs life because I didn't want to pay for his care, you're very lucky he didn't swallow the screw, an operation to remove it would cost much more. Hopefully this is a lesson not to leave things laying around which are harmful to pooch, I know if I left anything laying around our monster would eat it.
If you find these bills too costly then you simply cannot afford not to have insurance if it is something you don't currently have.0 -
Still looking for a decent response not some uninformed opinions about my intentions and responsibility as a dog owner.0

You've had decent responses, just not ones that you want to hear.
You took an animal to the vet and that vet would have done what he or she considered to be the best action for your pet.
You could have asked for an estimated price before treatment started but you didn't do so and because of this, you have to pay the amount owed.
As already mentioned, £130 for a consultation and x-ray is by no means unreasonable.0 -

If they had told you it was going to be £130 and you couldnt find the screw at home (wasting time if the dog had swallowed it) what would you have done0 -
Its not about the money. I have enough.
Its the principle.
And read my other comment. I was being responsible by taking him to the vet. Upon knowing fees I would have either just gone ahead or quickly checked again (taking a few minutes to just make sure I dont spend unnecessary money). If they told me the price and I could t find it I would have gone ahead of course so please no more comments about irrelevant things0 -

You have had lots of decent responses, if you didn't want to pay for the only way to see if your pooch had eaten a screw why did you go to the vets before looking at it?0 -
You took the dog to a vets and told them it may have swallowed a screw, just what did you expect them to do, as a responsible vet they checked to see whether it had, if they had told you what the charge would be would you have refused treatment and risked the animals health?0

benny1234black wrote: »Thanks for reaponses but the question wasnt about pet insurance. It was about the fact they did stuff anf charged for it before even asking to proceed and discussing price. I wouldnt have had it done knowing that price I would have had a proper look for the screw before proceeding etc. as I was waiting for them to tell me price but they just came back and said we have done xyz now give us £x. Its like me takig a car to garage saying I have a problem and them just fixing it without concent and saying thats £1000 please
They have a duty of care, all they know is a dog has arrived having swallowed a screw. It would be like taking your child to A&E saying he\she had swallowed some tablets, then complaining they should have waited before rushing him off, so you could establish for sure, whether or not you just misplaced them.
The fee for such an exam is about right, nothing they have done says RIP OFF to me.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I was 95% sure he swallowed it. If they said its £50 or something no probldm would have had an xray.
If they would have told me the actual cost i would have got my partner to DOUBLE check around the area he picked it up. Taking around 2 minutes to do it before proceeding.0
