I use my credit card for food shopping etc and withdraw a small amount every Thursday for day to day spending ie daughters piano lesson, swimming etc (in fact most of this spending goes on my girls aged 7 & 9.

I pay for my weekly shopping with my Tesco credit card (for extra points) and clear the balance every month.
We draw a set amount of money out each week and divide it up between us we never use cash machines or cashback.
  • I try to spend on my debit card when i go shopping, it saves me a fortune. If my estimated shopping bill came to £31, i'd automatically have drawn out £40, but if i pay for it on my card i'm only spending the £31. I find the extra £9 ends up in the corner shop if i have it in cash. It helps that my nearest cash mashine is a mile away...most days i just can't be bothered walking there. If i do need to draw cash I try and work out a weekly budget. I was wondering why i was £10 left over for the last two weeks and then i realised....summer holidays = no school dinner money needed :D
It's probably costing me an extra £3 a week on my shopping bill for a couple of loaves and a packet of ham or cheese to make him sandwhiches each day (which he wraps up and takes out with him) so technically i'm saving £7 a week right now...yay me !!
