car parking fine

Got a fine from a private company. Everyone telling me not to pay. The company said they will refer me to a debt collection agency if I don't. Can anyone tell me if this will affect my credit score.

  • It won't affect your credit rating, only a CCJ will, but this can take up to 6 yrs to be filed and heard.

You can appeal the fine via POPLA

Really? Is every Parking Company a BPA member then?

And can you go straight to POPLA? Isn't there another thing you have to do first?

And are you sure it's a fine???

Misinformation like that makes me SOOOO angry

No you didn't. A private company cannot fine you, well not in the UK anyway. Debt collectors have no powers beyond sending you bog paper.

Do not pay, do not ignore, do not reveal who was driving.

Read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES at the top of the page to see the CORRECT advice on how to deal with a private parking fake unenforceable speculative invoice.

The first and most important question is, in which country did this occur as the advice is different for England/Wales or Scotland/NI.
If you need more information please come back to this thread with the name of the PPC and dates of event and NTK. Upload pics of signs and documents to tinypic or photobucket then post the link to them here but change http to hxxp as newbies can't post links.

TryingHard1, please read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES. You probably thought you were helping but you really need to know this subject before quoting stuff on here as mis-information is worse than no information.

  • Sorry about that, just thought I'd chip in my 2p worth, won't happen again.

Just for my benefit though, as might find myself in this position if I lose my POPLA appeal, if I just ignore all the debt collector letters, the parking company can file a case in the small claims court at a cost of ~£35. I read there was a 6 yr wait for cases to be heard, and as long as you update the address on your driving licence and logbook then the company can't win by default?

Can you shed more light on this?

yep, half of that is rubbish ;)

a claim doesnt take that long to go to court , look at the beavis case, went to small claims court and is now going to the court of appeal, all in less than 2 years I would say ,,,,,,(from event to the COA next month)

the 6 year rule (for england and wales) is the small claims court rules, meaning they have up to 6 years to bring a court claim.

Typically if its going to happen it will happen in 1 to 3 years after the initial "event" , as can be seen with the recent spate of CEL and DEAL court claims , never mind the PE cases and Excel cases

no idea where you got the driving license and V5C info from , they should be up to date anyway , plus what about those people that have a V5C and dont have a driving license (or dont drive) , you dont have to be a driver to be a registered keeper

best bet is stay out of threads where you know nothing about the subject , because bad information is worse than none at all
  • It happened on boucher crescent retail park. Belfast. If this definitely won't affect my credit score then I'm not paying these scammers.
  • Fine came from a company called UKPC.

Brilliant! Assuming you live in Norn Iron and the car is registered there, do not respond in any shape or form to the PPC or debt collectors. You are bomb proof in Norn Iron and can safely ignore anything an everything provided you do not name the driver. The best way to do this is to have no contact with them at all.

Please read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES to confirm what I have said is true.
